View Full Version : Q's for any NYLE

I'm helping a friend to do some research for a game. Thought I'd better ask you guys;
1: Is there anywhere I can find a map or description of NYPD precincts?
2: What different departments (correct nomenclature?) are there and what are their respective jurisdiction? Who does what?
3: How are joint operations and communication between different pcts, depts, PI's and other LE agencies (FBI, DEA, ATF, USC etc.) managed? How are cases where jurisdictions overlap handled, and by whom?
4: Ranks and grades.
5: Can I find a list of those nifty radio codes? (penal codes?)
I'm pretty sure more than enough misconceptions can be gleaned from these questions. Well, set me straight. All I really "know" is from what I've seen in movies and TV...

You sure his game isn't actually an attempt to gather enough intel to rob a NY bank?

Cheers!

Oh yeah, we typically pick banks on manhattan to rob since it's conveniently close to where we live... http://www.socnetcentral.com/ubboard/tongue.gif
No really, it's a scenario supplement for a NY cop setting/investigation roleplaying game with supernatural/occult undertones.
Unfortunately, most of the intended audience is pityfully incapable of such feats of bravado as robbing banks, considdering how they'd have to both wave around with a gun, hold on to the loot and still manage to throw their dice to check if they can actually make the escape... http://www.socnetcentral.com/ubboard/biggrin.gif And when the police show up they'll complain to the gamemaster that he's upsetting the game balance...
And if you end up in a shootout with roleplayer criminals, don't bother to aim; just roll the dice and consult table 12-6...

You just want manny hanny?
fuck you then... i was gonna tell you a whole bunch in queens =-P I'm pretty sure all the info you want is available online.
The New York City Police Department is the main branch of LE here, the sheriffs just tow cars and evict people, there are other groups though, corrections dept. Court Officers and Clerks are all peace officers. The airports (JFK and LGA and EWR) and some other major transportation hubs are run by the Port Authority of NY and NJ, and they have their own police force (PAPD) The Mass Transit Authority has its own police as well. The main agency is in fact NYPD. All the federal agencies maintain their presence here as well. there's at least one member of the board that was with NYPD, so there should be answers forthcoming. HTH!

Murph,
If you don't mind, where are you in NYC?
I have a bunch of relatives out on the Island and go visit them a couple times a year. Might be able to stop in for a cold one. Or do some shooting! Feel free to e-mail instead of posting.
