How about those firefighters charging that PD barricade at the WTC? I hate to see those guys putting the PD in that position. What do you all think?

Guess I haven't heard the story. Can you post a link?

Okay. Got it now. My thoughts?

The FD is all fucked up. They need to stop and think about how many COPS are still buried in that rubble as well as firefighters. I don't know enough to say whether or not I agree with the decision to reduce the number of personnel, but I do think it was fucked up that they would come to blows with the PD about it. And on the very site where their brothers are buried in the rubble.

I'm ashamed for them. If they want to protest that's fine but, it should be directed at the right people and it should be a peaceful protest. Assaulting the PD was pure bullshit. There's my opinion.

What happened down there was really embarrassing.FD turned the WTC which in my mind is cemetary that should be respected and honored into a circus arena. A number of our guys(NYPD) suffered black eyes and head injuries caused by FD members who threw debris at them and also punched the cops. Cops were trying to hold the perimeter to the WTC which is still considered a crime scene against demonstrating firemen which some say numbered in the thousands. Cops are just as upset as the firemen about the decision to cut back the number of cops and firemen who are assigned to the WTC to recover the bodies but what the firemen did today to the cops assigned there is sickening. The fire unions are in high gear now doing damage control trying to convince the media that it was the cops who were the aggressors but the only problem with that is that the media and NYPD taped the entire event and it shows how disgracefully the firemen acted.

Falcon,

Unfortunately this is not the first time I have ever seen the FD bull up to the PD;
I have personally witnessed FD personnel go chest to chest with one of my troops over moving a police car so they could get their engine out of the scene! Incredible. Hate to say this, but I don't think FD likes the PD anywhere. Sour grapes?

I have to agree. While personaly I sympathize with the FD's cause, I think there is no excuse for the FD to act the way they did. I think the point that the PD is about as upset at the decision as the FD is right to the point. I just find it very sad that two services that had performed so brilliantly during one of their lowest moments despite all odds have to come to this. And over something that politicians had decided. Disgraceful.

Although they'd have the right to, I'd bet not ONE of New York's finest who was holding that perimeter holds a grudge against their FDNY brethren.

These actions were based on emotion. If guys from my squad were buried in that rubble, and the firedogs were telling me I couldn't dig, I'd have a hard time holding myself back. Don't hold this against the FD. I can't put myself in their place, and I hope I never can.

I agree and can sympathize with them. That being said, their assaulting the PD, who had NOTHING to do with the decision, was pure bullshit. The PD was simply doing their job of trying to protect the largest crimescene in history and there was no excuse for the FD guys to assault them. There are still plenty of dead cops buried under that rubble and FD guys don't have any monopoly on loyalty to their brothers. It was bullshit. Period. They should be ashamed.

The only time I ever heard of PD and FD working together was when my brother was providing cover fire for the guys trying to put out a structure fire during the LA Riots of '92.

I think of them as two big dogs marking territory. It's silly, but it happens a lot. I wish I had a solution because both bring a lot of good to the table...

Yall, It's kinda like all the branches of the military getting into it from time to time but I don't ever remember them picking such a poor time, as the FD did here, to mark their territoty...
