On 12-8-01 at approximately 0200 hours, Ofc Eric Dickson and two other officers were on foot in one of the not so great areas of our city checking shots fired in the area. As Ofc Dickson and another officer were walking on the north side of the street, a subject in a house on the south side of the street opened fire on them with 5-6 shots from possibly a 9mm. Ofc Dickson was struck in the right thigh .
Another Hemet ofc, Det. Pinney, responded to the 11-99 swooped in and performed an officer rescue, and took Eric to a nearby hospital.
Riverside Sheriff, CHP, Banning PD, San Jacinto PD and Murrieta PD responded as well, along with Anaheim PD's helo who circled for approx 4 hours.
Hemet and Murrieta PD SWAT responded, gassed the crap out of them and took the tweekers into custody.
Ofc Dickson had surgery to remove the bullet, and will be back to work soon. Dickson is an aggressive officer and is on the gang team and also my beat partner.
Side note..when SWAT made entry, they had all of the windows nailed shut, and had heavy blankets nailed over the windows and doors inside.

Glad your troop's going to be OK, HmtPD. I'll keep a good thought for him. Be safe.
Note to self: Remember the side note. That tactic might pop up again.

Good to hear your brother will be okay.
<mental note> If you come across the above tactic, yell "Hey everybody, over there!", directing their eyes away from house. Then proceed to light that bitch like an Elton John candelabra, and let the fun begin.

Two words: Explosive Entry.
BTW, blankets overs doors and windows are great for reducing shrapnel; mighty considerate of them...

Glad to hear the Officer will be alright. Too bad the shitbags didn't put up more of a fight during the entry.

Hemet,
Tell your boy he'll be up in 2 weeks. I got it in both legs with a .38 and was runnin' and jumpin' in 4 weeks. Push the PT, make it hurt now and it will pay dividends later.
Tracy, as I was reading that, I was thinking "Fire In The Hole" myself! Not to mention a couple of other little tricks.
Sounds like you guys and gals did a jam up job on containment, I would be pleased to be staging up knowing that.
By the way, a barricade penetrating OC round (38mm) would have also done in an emergency entry scenario, the blankets would have held in the OC.

Sapper..
We first used 40mm gas rounds to push the pigs to the rear of the house, then tossed in hot gas. The blankets did hold in the gas. When we made entry, it was like entering into a thick fog...Thank God for gas masks and flash bangs.
Dickson is a body builder type and a hard charger also.

We made a handy little device.....Screw the windows.
Take a round steel bar (hollow, like a straw) about the thickness of your finger, 5 feet long, with one end sharpened at a slight angle. Weld a cross piece at one end and in the middle for the handles (used like a ram).
Connect an air valve to the handle end so you can connect a large container of "Freeze +P" (the kind used in prison riots, I think it's called "Clear Out").
I have yet to see a house that 2 men couldn't jam that through the wall from the outside.

He is doing good and is back to work. He will be getting the purple heart at our April awards banquet. There are no complications, he recovered fully. Both suspects are looking at 25-life.
I passed on you concern...Thanks.

Tell him to pass on his experience to everyone that will listen, give them tips, and train their minds for that kind of situation. It's the best thing he could ever give back to everyone that was there for him.

this reminded me of a warrant service we did a short time back...good intel is worth a million.
the target residence had both front and back doors barred shut from top to bottom and dark, thick blankets over the windows of the residence. The entrance/exit point of the residence used by the suspects was a window located near the kitchen which was partially obstructed by vegetation.
we used alot of port/cover, brake/rake poles to take out the front windows of the residence and yank down the blankets as well as port/cover other windows on the opposite side for FSDD deployment. we used the stairs we had custom-made for bus assaults to run up into the window frame and make entry. it worked very well. we wish we could go to explosive entry then we could just make our own doors..hehe.
Glad to read your bro is doing well.
