Philippine Special Operations

Looking for any info. on Philippine's Special Operations/Forces?

I seem to recall reading an article about a unit called "Alpha Two Zero" (A20) attached to the Phil. Army, but have not seen nor read anything about them since.

Any Info. would be appreciated.

hey DCH, Alpha Two Zero is the Philippine equivalent of Delta Force, as far as I know. For more information, you should check out Osprey Book's "Southeast Asian Special Forces", or something similar to that name.

because the Philippine military is so closely modeled on the US Army, you will find that if a name of a unit in the PAF sounds like the name of a unit in the US Military, chances are the unit in the PAF has a similar role to the one in the US Military. Some examples:

Philippine Scout Rangers ~ US Army Rangers
Special Forces ~ US Army Special Forces
Navy SWAG (Special Warfare Group) ~ US Navy SEALs

hence:

Alpha-2-0 ~ Delta Force

There is supposedly another unit in the PAF called SAF ("Special Action Force") which has a similar role to SFOD-D, but I'll have to go back and find that book to quantify that statement. Hope this all helps. If you want to contact me, feel free to e-mail me at:

The PAF has a Rescue Wing with PJ's assigned to it, and the 710 Special Operations Wing which handles TACP, Air Base Ground Defense, Combat Control, EOD, K-9 and air Liaison duties.

The Marines have the Inshore Boat Company, and Force Recon.

The Constabulary has the Special Action Force
(PC SAF), and the Light Reaction Force (LRF- Counter Terrorism unit).

The National Police (PNP) also have an airborne qualified Special Action Force (SAF) and SWAT teams stationed through out the country.
