Is 5th Avn. Reg. the only unit to provides aviation support for the SASR, and Commandos.

I also remember reading that the RFSUs have a small number of aircraft assigned for resupply.

Also does anyone know which aircraft was selected as the new CSAR platform for the RAAF?

From what I heard both the CH-47, and decommissioned USAF MH-53's were under consideration.

The 5th does provide the bulk of stuff, and elements of 36/35 Sqn with Caribou.
Ch47D Models fly here, CSAR is not finalised. Under Project Wedgetail, [See Air Forces Monthly Mag from the UK], The AWACS AEW will be the 737 Aircraft with no rotating dome , but a large bulge running down the spine. We got rid of [should not have ] the Pilatus Porter and the Nomad. The Caribou replacement of which SASR will have special use will probably be the Lockheed /Martin /Alenia Special C-27 J with engine commonality with the Aussies brand new C-130J type.
