Jsut saw an interesting news (TV) piece on an ex. currently being held in Aussie for the Olympic build up.

Will be watching with great interest to see how the Aussies handle it.

Any comments etc ?

It would be interesting to see what stage of development 4RAR is at concerning counter terrorism. This would have to be one of the better mismanagement cases in recent times.

I think that although australia hasn't mentioned it, that they might be bringing in outside help for counterterrorism such as an American Sea Air Land Team. I forget the number for this area but it would be a thought that would've at least crossed their minds.
We have no dedicated hostage rescue and counterterrorism teams in Australia, but the Special Operations Capable, Special Air Service Regiment, has been training for nearly a year continually. I'm sure that any terrorism activity will be met suffiecently during the olympics.

Australia has several dedicated counter terrorist/hostage rescue units. I can think of no plausible situation where Australia would seek foreign intervention on Australian territory.

Yes there are dedicated CT units in Australia mike. With the "special operations capable" SASR ct team being the big one. There are several others including the Federal Police and even maybe 4RAR depending on how there training schedule. Can i ask you mike what you mean when you refer to some of the most well respected special forces units in the world, the SASR, and refer to them as spec op capable?
