My brother just shipped off for USAF Basic this morning at 0500. For those of you who offered your assistance with him when he was looking into the 129th Rescue Sq. at Moffett, I thank you.
However, he decided to enlist for F-16 Crew Chief for the ANG here in Fresno. I think about 95% of that decision was based on his 18 yr. old girlfriend of 2 months influencing him.
Oh well...It's his life, but Im disappointed because his whole life he's wanted to work on helicopters. Yesterday he was asking me if I thought it was to late to change his MOS to a helicopter related job at Moffett. I said, "Dude....your leaving for basic in about 8 hours. Yeah, I think its to late." But, he did get E-3 because of JROTC.
So anyway......Im going to send him a care package full of Marine Corps recruiting material marked "Goodies for Matt's Flight":D

Congratulations to your brother.
Congratulations to you to for being educated in the fact that hormones will be influencing many of his decisions for the next several years. (influence of 18 year old girlfriend);)
When they stop influencing his decisions he will be mature which is a nice way of saying old.:D
Good Luck to him.

True, but there is a point where the half of your brain that turned to mush when you first got laid starts to regroup and form up.
Lucky we all had assistance in accelerating that process thanks to the Leaning Rest and a Corchoran up our ass so far we could taste the Kiwi.
And running, lots of running. lots. (Remember the "50 -500 mile", the "1000 mile" run patches, different colors? I didn't jerk-off for three years at least. By the time I made E-5, I could afford a girlfriend, stripper, whatever...point is, the process resolves itself. ) Actually, when you think about it...the whole process was rather comprehensive. :D

I landed at Moffett and had my orders stamped at a little desk in the blimp hanger on my last of 3 combat tours from over there. Somehow I got to the 101 gate and was going to take a hitch-hike ride either North or South (which I did not care), and just wander. I did not know it then, but I had a touch of the PTSD; ya know, like having a touch of being preggy. There were no bands, banners, or majoretes. Just a rubber stamp to greet me.
I don't know what wimmin have that turns men heads, but what ever they have your little Bro has the scent of the spoor.
I wished he could have been sent to some less than desireable place other than Fresno. It will be like having a job at home, but he will miss the negatives that come with a poor assignment far away from home, the same poor assignment that gives young men a better appreciation of home.
I wish him well.

The advice I tried to give him was to forget about job skills. See the world and do something cool. I told him that at 19 years old, go be a aerial gunner, or something. Get out with a few "No shit, there I was...." stories under your belt. I tried to explain to him that a few years from now, he is going to regret it, and more than likely, based on their ages, she will be gone. You know, I guess its not like the kid is a loser (sort of) but I just know that his decision was based on what was going to keep him closest to his chick. Which is evident by him wanting to change his MOS the day before he shipped out. I think reality hit him and he figured out, "Oh crap.....this is for real." He was originally going active duty for Black Hawk repairer or Aerial gunner but decided he didn't want to join the military at all because he didn't want to leave the chick. After a long talk, I finally got him to at least go ANG. He decided on the Fresno Air Guard to stay here. Siiiiigh. I guess he can always go active from there if he wants. There is a 15 year difference between us. Same parents too.:) But, its done. He's now on a plane to TX.

Good luck to your brother, smart move going USAF. A neighbor kid of mine is going to Lackland in August. When he gets out hopefully police work is in his future. I know I'm always glad to hear that our new guy is a vet.

Wish your brother luck man, I am leaving for Air Force BMT later this month... and in a sick way I am pumped up. I decided about 3 months ago to quit dating all together, because it was just a PITA and would only make leaving harder if I found a girl.
Needless to say, at that age (only a couple years ago) I would have been the same way... because everyting seems like "true love". But he will learn, thats not quite how it works.
Im going in for CCT and know its going to suck, but like you mentioned... I wanted something that would stick with me forever, more than just a skill or trade.
and more than likely, based on their ages, she will be gone.
Indeed. "Women are dessert."

Hah! I suspect that you know more than most Man, and much more than you reveal.
What next? You are going to say you have heard that beer can have good taste, and you hope to try some in future?
As for 'just wander from NAS Moffett', I think N is better than S, and there is something about weather in that area that on nice day, wandering is a temptation for any. Very beautiful area, very nice weather.
