I am very keen to join the SAS after i join the army, all my friends think im full of it but i ignore em, i have books on aussie and british sas. Does anybody know what actually goes on during the SAS selection course. What would the furtherest run have to be while there?I am already starting to do a little bit of training for it now. I am very good at push ups and situps i do 6X30 pushups and 6X60 crunches every night. However i am a weak runner which is one of the main type of fitness needed for it. I was wondering if anybody had a cardio fitness course that starts off fairly low say 1.5-2km and builds up. Cause i really need to build up my cardio fitness.

Follow this link to go to a message I wrote earlier this year about what I do...or did. I have modified it since then.

For a better answer I would have to know how old you are, size, max performance etc to come up with an answer you could use other than if you are prepared to train frequently and consistently, a stringbean can be turned into operator material inside 12 months.

In that case you have years before even considering selection, so the best option would be a moderate intensity cycle of training sustained over a long period of time. Running is the big thing. Judging by your size, stength shouldn't be much of an issue, so endurance is what you need to work on.
The best bet would be a combination of middle distance running (ie 30-60 minutes), preferably over hills to build stamina, and interval training.
For pushups, situps and other bodyweight exercises, don't become fixated on doing a certain number then stop. To the maximum number of reps you can before you can no longer lift your bodyweight. As they are low impact you can do them every day. Even if you do each exercise only once each day for max reps, you will get a steady improvement.
Weight training would be nice but is not critical, especially at your age. You have years available to you, so your best bet will be to maintain consistency in training and you will slowly get up to standard well before selsction.

Age doesn't have a lot to do with anything. One of the guys on the Iranian Embasy seige was only 19. At the end of the day if your mature, can do the tests and have endurance. You might be in with a chance.
Read fighting fit by Adrian Wheal - it will describe how to reach the required fitness levels in good detail.

A good description is:

try the library of the College of Defence and Strategic Studies; Australian Defence Studies Centre; or the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre of the Australian National University. All three are staff by retired personnel and civilian "wannabees". IIRC, one of the college above is required for all officers who want to go above colonel. If nothing further, try the interlibrary loan office of your nearest largest public library.
