I would like to know if anyone has bought or otherwise had the use of the Fitness Anywhere TRX suspension trainer http://www.fitnessanywhere.com/page/000-94127/PROD/FTKMG
and if so, what your opinion of it is.

TIA

I actually have one and it is harder than it looks. I watched the video and thought, oh yeah after about 30 reps some of those execises would be hard. It kicked my a$$. Very good for the core and to do some "crossfit style" workouts. I use it when I travel now and at the end of my workouts and on days that I do cals as oppossed to weights. If you are looking for something different, I would say yes.

There was a thread on here before and some folks mentioned ways to make one. I am not that crafty so ended up getting one.

There's nothing like that kind of input. Thanks! I tried to search for it here, as I was confident that surely someone had written it up, but the search package wouldn't search for a term with only 3 letters. All the combo's I tried came up empty.

It looked to me like one would be ideal for travel, and for some agility/flexibility routines. My trainer, who has never seen one, was positive about the concept.

I'll let you know what I think when I've tried one.

$200 is massively overpriced for something I could make myself with about $30 bucks with parts from REI IMO.

And if I didn't feel like making one, I'd probably go with Lifeline's "Jungle Gym". Which is pretty much the same concept, only it is 49.99. http://www.lifelineusa.com/IW_Products.m4p.pvx?;products_no_tree?company=LIF

The jungle gym 2 looks good. I wish I had seen it earlier. I agree on the making the thing. If you had the know how, that is the way to go.

Mine still is incredibly simple to use and easy to set up. Mine did not cost that much though.

Yes, but you didn't get the several hour DVD with all the cool exercises demonstrated by shapely models, or the genuine imitation olive drab mesh carrying case, door anchor or owners manual! Not to mention that this device "is built to exceed military specifications ..... in any environment where it can be secured to an overhead support!" You have to think about that.

It does seem a bit pricey.

Chris Taylor came to our unit to show us the TRX. He's the former BUD/s instructor that did the Combat Missions show. He's a really cool guy and those bands we're a hard workout. But I heard from some guys that used those as part of a test a another unit and some guys said they lost strength? I found that hard to believe because its hard to see how after those exercise's kicked my ass. $200.00 for a very large Riggers belt is way over the line. For travel I think it would be a great piece of gear.

I've gotten the package now and watched the DVD that comes with it. I did not know that the President of Fitness Anywhere, Randy Hetrick is a former SEAL. He originated the device and demonstrates the various exercises on the DVD.

The video makes the exercises look so easy. I was quickly surprised and humbled.

Domino,

I went the easy route and bought one. I like, and yes I feel that it is harder than it looks. Even though it is $200, I did get 2 DVDs, an instruction manual, TRX system, and carrying bag.

I like it and it definitely targets the core. This system combined with weight training, cardio, etc; you will get stronger. I am not going to lie to you, I am out of shape (not too much though), but I have noticed a difference in muscle tone.

Where I was at, there were some Army guys who were using the P90X and they were getting results as well. I wanted to use the TRX system to see how it would compare. Unfortunately I got moved to a different base here in Iraq and they went back home, so results are inconclusive.

All in all, I like it and will keep up with it.

Hope this helps,
flb3

Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for your service.

I found a temporary rigging yesterday and gave it a try. It is harder than it looks. Another thing, the exercise DVD doesn't have demonstrations by shapely models... completely fooled me on that one. I guess Hetrick either doesn't have the budget, or didn't major in marketing;) Maybe the shapely models couldn't hack it!
