Im thinking about joining the RAAF ADG Reserve and was looking for confirmation they dont walk dogs around or do front-gate salute duty!? And any other info. I've found some stuff online and if theirs much more I might make a website about it.

I know a sergeantthats an ADG. From what he told me ADGs perform only airfild defense, instruct SERE and weapons instruction, act as RAAF helicopter door gunners, and will soon be acting asthe RAAFs CSAR force.

I did a page on them over at http://www.specwarnet.net

Law enforcement duties and routine patrols are handled by the RAAF Security Police.

The ADGs have an official recruiting site up that explains their duties and training. It should be linked the RAAF official website.

I'm thinking of transferring over to RAAF myself.
Good Facilties.
But they are not SF just airfield guards, they got some good kit on one hand and complete crap on the other.
Being in the army I've only heard bad things but saying that these guys do an important job.
I'm pretty sure the first reserve element to deploy to East Timor was Adgies and they did the evac of civies in Cambodia a few years back.So you might get some action.
A Army unit would still crap all over AdGies though. The Air force is civi compared to the Army but the RAAF takes better care of its people.

I hope they train em to levels reaching Special Forces..... so they have a chance of completing their mission successfully.

Though if your definition of Special Forces requires High Performance Parachuten` & Diving, and MultiLinguistics then it sounds like your spot on about ADG's not being SOP's.

RAAF does treat its people better.I've spent enough time at Tndal,Richmond and Laverton to know it .It takes an outsider to see it.I know nothing of the navy but I have worked heaps with the RAAF compared to the army, RAAF have it sorted for accommadation, medical and food.
I don't think anyone would feel threatend by the Adgies in infantry,I never did or any of my mates,my old unit use to jump in and attack Tindal on Pitch black exercises. But you are right as there are alot of small minded people in the Army.
I worked with ....well still work with a ex adgie....ready reserve adgie he was and as I was interested in going to the RAAF,I questioned him, thats where I got my info about kit,I said it was good on one hand and crap on the other not all crap.Maybe Timor has changed all that.ANd the RAAF has said shit we need these guys.
Also wouldn't one of your gunned up 110's have more firepower than a infantry section?
Everyone in RAAF proberly hates Adgies cause Adgies do a harder, dirtier job than they do which developes espirit de corp something you are not allowed to have in the ADF anymore.
AS for infantry not bumping SF patrols you obvisously have never been on a section patrol with anyone from the RAR.
Granted Adgies might meet more SF around airfields, and thats a big might while grunts hump the boonies getting into real shit.
The army by the way has as long as I've known been preparing its men to find and destroy small mobile Sf type enemy what do you think all those Kangaroo, Croc etc ex's have been for.I can't remember the last time I went on ex and was told the enemy is conventional. In Timor I never patrolled looking for a conventional enemy either. The last Conventional war the army fought was Korea.
Our training is geared towards small unit ops and Brigade type ops.
You might have missed the part where I said the Adgies do an important job.

Haha, donsa, you persistant tone of sarcasm is annoying. Though Id love to read more books on all specialops, true.

Arent the ADF Helicopters Army, and wouldnt they provide their own Gunners? Does the RAAF have any helo's other than the CHC (Lloyds) Search&Rescue Sikorsky's. I think CSAR with Bushrangers and Landrovers wouldnt be sufficient.... though a S76 with refuelling probe, Miniguns and Exhaust suppressors would look great.....

I'm only 15 so I have no first hand experience but I know a few guys from the Army as well as some ADGs. It's pretty hard to campare the two considering that they usually have different roles. ADGs are trained to protect bases, especially against special forces, and train other RAAF personel. Comparable or not, individuals will always consider their own service better.
