Congrats to former All Navy wrestler Adam Wheeler who earned a birth on the 2008 Greco Roman Olympic Wrestling Team at 96kg (211 lbs). Adam, now w/ Gator Wrestling Club, defeated Justin Ruiz, NYAC, in the best out of 3 series. Justin has beaten Adam numerous times over the years, but Adam finally was the better man tonight!! Adam was just getting into the All Navy team as I was moving on w/ my Navy career and leaving the Navy team. I got to help coach him when he was briefly in San Diego. Dremiel Byers, US Army, also made the Olympic Team at HWY. He was a 2002 World Champion and has been beaten out by Rulon Gardner the past two Olympic cycles. There seems to be a changing of the guard so to speak within USA Wrestling. Most of the younger wrestlers, including an 18 year old who made the Greco team at 145.5 lbs!!, have made the Olympic Team for 2008.

I saw the story about the young man who had just finished high school and made the team. That is a tremendous accomplishment.

My best to our representatives to the upcoming Olympic Games.

My best to our representatives to the upcoming Olympic Games.

His name is Jake Deitchler. He's from Minnesota and wrestled at the same high school was 1996 Olympic Silver Medalist, Brandon Paulson. Paulson is helping coach Jake and was in his corner at the Trials. Jake beat 2006 World Bronze Medalist Harry Lester on way to winning Olympic birth...should be an interesting Olympic Games!!
