I was just curious as to what role an assault pioneer undertakes. Are they higher trained infantry or what area do they specialize in?
Pioneers as they are called in are infantryman who carry out engineer type jobs for the battalion. They build and destroy to put it one way. They are trained in the use of explosives and small boat handling amongst other things. Its a good course to get on.
Pioneer platoon, recon platoon, sig platoon sniper cell, mortar platoon and direct fire support weapons. All make up Support company in a battalion.Support company soldiers are usually senior soldiers who have been in the battalion or army for a few years. This means they have more experience than a rifle company soldier.
Everyone has to be in a rifle company first then do a support company course, then sent on to support company after a few years. This all depends on manning levels.
