The Westboro Baptist Church is planning to be here on Wednesday protesting the funeral of the pregnant soldier that was found dead in her hotel room last month.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FAYETTVILLE, N.C. — Some Fort Bragg wives say they’ll oppose a fundamentalist church’s plan to celebrate the death of a pregnant soldier.
The Fayetteville Observer reported Wednesday a Kansas church plans a “gospel picket” on the death of 23-year-old Army Spc. Megan L. Touma. Police Sgt. John Somerindyke says Westboro Baptist Church is seeking a city permit for July 16.
The church has organized harassment of mourners at funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying war casualties are divine revenge for America tolerating gays and lesbians.
No messages could be left at the church’s telephone number, according to the newspaper.
Touma was found dead at a Fayetteville motel June 21. No arrests have been made.
Danell Shafer of Fort Bragg Mommies said they will oppose the church’s picket.

The Westboro Baptist Church attempted to disrupt the funeral of a fallen soldier in our small community last year. They were not received well. They failed in their attempt. Our community does not have the patience for people like that. I really do not have the vocabulary to describe how I feel about them, but if I had the chance to "discuss" it with them, I would make my message clear.

I have fought for Freedom of Speech but they have crossed the line. They should be shot. For a supposed church they have no compassion for anyone.

Oh boy, we already talked about these Clowns a couple of weeks ago about another funeral of a brother soldier who had been killed and they were going to protest. They are NOT Christians, NOT a Church... they are just plain Evil.... that all.. just Evil, mean and nasty people. I just can't go to where these people protest ~ I am wise enough to know that I do not have self control or the ability to hold my temper with these people... I would end up hurt myself or hurting one of them... or in jail.... plain and simple.

Are you fucking kidding me?!!? When is enough enough with these clowns. They are going to keep up their bullshit and someone is going to take matters into their own hands. Of course that will play right into their garbage......

Hopefully, the Patriot Guard Riders will be around to keep these sick degenerate bastards far enough away from the funeral so that they won't be able to disrupt the services.
Someday, someone is going to make these lowlifes pay. I just hope that whoever that someone is,that they don't get their own ass in a sling doing so.

So the WBC applies for a permit....Well, I could see their paperwork getting lost , held up, DENIED, or better yet approved at a different location, maybe at the edge of the county in the opposite direction of the cemetary.
Otherwise;
1) sprinklers spraying down every sidewalk along the route, of course making sure that the area is less prone to wildfires
2) independent truckers using their rigs to block the protest sight in conjunction with the Patriot Riders
Its really a shame that there isn't a hand held version of the new crowd control device that makes your skin feel like its on fire...or maybe some sort of sonic 'disruptive' speaker that would discourage these ass-clowns.

These degenerates are over the top. Bad enough protesting the funerals of fallen soldiers, but a pregnant soldier who was brutally murdered? Holy Shit!
Westboro members are nothing more than ghouls, haunting cemeteries and living off of the dead.
I don't understand what or where they would want to protest in Fayetteville. The last I read her funeral was going to be in Kansas.
If they did hold a protest in Fayetteville, it would be an absolute testament to the quality, training, and discipline of the local service members that they don't get mobbed. On the other hand, it will be a testament to the selection and quality of the military spouses if the Westboro members do get mobbed.

These idiots aren't much different than the inbreds in piss stained sheets that claim to be the master race.
I wonder if they enjoy a tax exempt status of a legitimate religon.
I don't understand why their actions can't be considered under hate crimes laws. Those laws provide increased "victim" status to all but the ordinary average guy.

I am a Patriot Guard Rider. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend, but I'll definitely bring it to their attention, just in case they don't already know.

The article said the "Ft Bragg Mommies" have got this one covered.
Yikes. Somehow I think this one IS going to make some serious headlines.

Irish Squid, The Patriot Guards came to Waterville, NY for the funeral of USA Cpl J Sigsbee earlier this year. It's in the works with our congressman and senator to name the local post office after him.
Keep up the Great work.
I didn't see anything scheduled for this in our "confirmed rides," so I emailed the NC state captain about it. Hopefully he can get something organized in time.

All you need is a valid email account, first and last name. As stated, membership is free, and none of the rides or missions are "mandatory," however, if you choose to attend, you will have to pay your own way.
The mission statement is as follows:
Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement
The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.
We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is; you don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.
Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives.
1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.
2. Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.
We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.
To those of you who are currently serving and fighting for the freedoms of others, at home and abroad, please know that we are backing you. We honor and support you with every mission we carry out, and we are praying for a safe return home for all.
Any more information you need, feel free to ask.

thank you.
I don't understand this.
I realize that our freedoms extend to speech, permission to protest in groups, etc. And i suppose that I have to accept that there are people who will utilize certain events to push their own agendas.
What I don't get is that numerous posters on this board, and elsewhere, have stated that Westboro is really a scam. Its a group of people who are looking for a way to make a buck off of the probable reactions of those they are insulting.
So if this is true, or even half-true, why would the same politicians scrounging for our votes not force the Attorney General's office to put these mf'ers in jail, tie THEM up in court, etc.?
I don't think that we from the military, or military backgrounds, are special -- but I think that this behavior is fucking despicable. And if it can be shown that it is economically based, then we should be after these fucks just as hard and motivated as the government went after the ENRON or even Whitewatergate....:mad:
I know there are a couple of people stationed here in eastern NC. Anybody on here planning on attending this...?

These people are the motherfuckingscumoftheearth and I can only hope that they die a fiery death on the way to their "protest". I think I have more respect for pedophiles than I do for these people. As others have stated their tax status and everything else needs to be put under the microscope. Since they are are so keen on suing, maybe the families of some of the fallen can file a class action against them claiming that their protesting and harassment caused undue mental stress.

I agree, if they are truly making money off suing people, etc, etc, etc.
I'm not sure if that is the case, or if it is just the opinion of people.
If they aren't, and they're a "church" then they're in their right I guess as despicable as it is.
