I am considering purchasing this knife and from all accounts, it seems to be a top quality piece of steel. I was wondering if anyone has any comments or recommendations about it or any other. (NOTE: I need a top quality, EXTREMELY durable knife, mine go through utter hell.)

Hi;

I myself carry the mission knives MPK, it's non magnetic feature is high on my list plus it's strength.(general all around use)

Secondary for combat use a Reeves Special projects custom with full serations (cuts through para cord like nothing else in an emergency)

Last knife a Emerson (Benchmade) spring blade dummy corded in left cargo pocket.

As a substitute for the MPK I like the Recon Scout by Cold Steel, if you have to purchase the knife yourself this is the best, much stronger the the 2000 and much more general purpose(most are used for mundane work around camp and such than for combat)

For a fighting knife the Recon Tanto is a good piece and the price is right too, if you don't wish to go to a custom blade.

And still after all these years a good all around knife the K-Bar in it's various forms rates right up there, plus you don't have to worry about loosing it along with the trauma of loosing a custom 8)

getting long winded here, if I can help any further feel free to ask, take care...Jim

I've been told by numerous parties to stear clear of the Seal 2000, apparently the Steel isn't up to par. The above suggestion of the Recon Scout is a good one....but be ready to replace the sheath as they are rather chinsy. The Ka-bar is every bit of the knife the SEAL2000 is for a much better price. The Cold Steel SRK is also a great knife for the money...the Concealex sheath is Passable if not great.

Hi Night,

Im an avid bladomaniac and own most of the knives mentioned around here.

The SK2000 is a nice piece of steel but doesnt really live up to its price. Pro's are the balance, great blade profile and quite rugged construction. Cons are the steel properties (not all that sharp), the handle lacks a guard and is hell when chopping.

Dont own a recon scout yet http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/frown.gif but the no-nonsense design must work.

The Ka-bar. well im a ka-bar lover but the latest models are a little too pricey for what they offer. If any, i'd go with the Next Generation Fighter (extra wide blade) its one mean piece of equipment and very usefull for chopping and digging. Just dont forget to tuck it in an eagle sheath http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/smile.gif

Dont own an MPK (grr, JY) but if JY says it works i guess you can trust the spacetoy.

Recon tanto didnt do it for me, not enough forward weight. More like a stabbing toy.

The Bush Ranger by cold steel looks mighty sweet too, you really want to consider that one, but it is a little expensive.

Best bang (chop?) for the buck IMHO : Ka-Bar serrated "black" model : costs 3 times nothing and functions reasonably.

Hope this helps.
