I've mentioned from time to time how I want to get out of DC - I don't like the politics, I don't like the commuter culture, I don't like that there isn't a blue-collar working class here, I hate that every 3d person is a lawyer and so on and so forth.

I've gone back and forth between Cincinnati, Richmond, Baltimore, and Philly and, after having been back and forth to Philly to visit friends numerous times over the past year, I've decided I want to give it a shot - bonus is I can actually afford a house there, maybe with a garage even (which would cost me $800,000 here in the deepest part of the ghetto).

If any of you guys work for tech companies, or, hell, any companies, and have openings shoot me a PM. I will send you my resume.
Thanks

Get ready to pay way higher taxes. In addition to federal and state income taxes, you'll be saddled with a 6% city wage tax for Philly. Take a look at property tax rates, also. In some parts of Philly, that can take home ownership off the table for many folks.

KidA,

There alot of tech companies off the 476 corrider (no city wage tax, nice neighborhoods and good schools too, $$$ and >) and in NJ outside of Philly. I grew up in NJ and lived in filthydelphia for over ten years at various times. Let me know if can help in anyway. Phillys all about neighborhoods, so you may want rent a year if your set on living in the city.

Good Luck,
Kalbo

Are you talking about living IN THE CITY or the near suburbs (King of Prussia, Doylestown, etc.)?

Probably in the city as I'm soured on the suburb life from living in DC (box stores, yuppies, NIMBY fuckers and jammed packed roads that take an hour to go five miles on because of all the people commuting) but admit I have no familiarity with Philly's suburbs.

However given I'd probably end up working in the city and use motorcycles/scooters for transportation, I don't want to be making a 20 mile commute in the dead of winter on a motorcycle.

My fiance is from Doylestown...great place. If you want to work in Philly, I'd suggest there or Montgomeryville. But yeah, there's the commute issue. It's about 40 minutes as the crow flies. It's worth it though.

Hey just got back from Philly a few minutes ago. Look in the Bala or Lower Merion area. Close enough to the city but far enough away. Manayunk and East falls are not that bad but if you like the city life go for the Old City area near the Ben Franklin bridge. Lots to do and see and you don't have to drive any where. I left there last year to live down here.

Hey KidA, I can't offer you much in the way of employment, but we just put our house up for sale in Manayunk. It is a pretty desirable neighborhood, one of the safest in the city. If you are interested let me know.

The commute's really not that bad. I grew up right near Doylestown (Hatboro).

I live in downtown Philly currently and work for a large company here. I can't make any promises as I'm in a finance/audit position, but I'm more than happy to pass along your resume.

If you need any straight dope on the city, whether living or working here, I can help.

I've lived in Philly all my life...one bit of advice for you...if you live or work inside the city you will pay wage tax. It's a fact! And it is 4.14% not 6%. Also make sure you get a Concealed Carry Permit. Just my police officer .02

PM inbound, KidA.

If you're going to live or work in the city, definitely get your carry permit, but be prepared for a rash of bullshit (even though it is shall issue) since you're in the Philly city limits.
