Is this really happening?
Yup. It's actually supposed to start being available as early as October of this year, last I heard. Thank god I'll be in the ARNG by then.

I'm glad they went with the Star Wars "Empire" envelope!

1. I know the Marines have sharp uniforms, but is it too much to ask to try and be little original? I'm sure the USMC loves the Navy is copying their working uniforms...
2. Couldn't they have picked someone that actually knows what the inside of a gym looks like or pt's more than twice a year to show off this "new" uniform?

The Navy is trying WAY too hard to try and look as "cool" as the other branches. That's why they have this new working uniform and why they are going to those gay blue digital cammies.
Come on man, people in the Navy that PT more than twice a year? Those are called Special Warfare guys right? :D

Been awile since you've seen a fleet Navy Chief has it?
I am convinced after seeing some of the E-6's that got promoted to Chief last year that you have to be a minimum of 50lbs over weight to get promoted to E-7. Fuckin' sad...
Athletic and Classic fit?
Athletic fit is, in fact, fitted, for the people who actually PT. Classic fit is baggy enough to hide *some* of the fat. At least, that's how the "Classic" and "Athletic" fit styles were with Summer Whites.

I see.
Kinda like when theaters did away with the small, and just went with medium, large and extra large. ;)

Actually, it's been over 20 years, since I went through MEPS. Not counting what I've seen in movies. :D
I will say that the Master Chief PO that was running the show down there looked pretty fit, even though he was probably nearing 50.

Any link for the blue digis?
And as for the poindexter in the uniform poster, I got $20 saying he plays airsoft in full mil-spec tac gear.

Compared to the old dungarees, at least this monkey suit doesn't look like a prison outfit and can probably be worn off base.
Athletic fit is, in fact, fitted, for the people who actually PT. You mean the shirt is extra large to cover their gigantic chest/shoulders, and pants that have really narrow legs to accommodate the chicken legs?

GAY!!

This uniform is not meant to replace the dungajams. It is meant to replace the working blues and working whites in an effort to lighten the seabag. The new blue camos are supposed to replace dungarees and coveralls.

Jesus. A fatass who wanted to be a Marine. How sad.
Ha ha, and people ask why I got out! A few thoughts...
1. The new working uniform isn't bad, my only criticism is that it's obviously copied from the USMC. Much better than wearing a damn white uniform on a dirty, greasy ass ship anyways. At least they could have come up with something a little more different. On the other hand, maybe all branches should just go with the same uniform and save us taxpayers a lot of money.
2. The blue digital cammie uniform is FUCKING GHEY AS HELL! Camouflage is designed so you can blend into your surroundings. Why is this necessary on a ship? If, God forbid, you go overboard, do you really want to blend in with the ocean? Hell no! You want to be the most visible thing within 20 miles so they can find you! Some Admiral just got a third star coming up with this brilliant idea. Good God, that has to be the most horrid military uniform in the history of humanity!
3. Nevermind, I'll leave point 3 out, since it's kind of bitter and hostile, and I thought better of it...

Sad. The Johnny Cash was the only decent looking uniform we had.

They aren't getting rid of dress whites are they? I have very fond memories of the "Ho-Catchers."

No. The "crackerjacks", both whites and blues, will stay the dress uniform for the Navy.

Pretty much. The working whites looked good as well though, if you spent the extra money for the nice ones.

Jesus fuck!
I need a whole truck load of cheese to go with all of this whine.
"Oh boo hoo, they changed the uniform".
"Whaaaaa, it looks too much like the Marine uniform".
Uniform changes happen every 2 decades or so, the endless whining about it is also a constant.
With every other branch doing the uniform boogie, did you seriously think the Navy wouldn't do the same eventually?
You guys cry too much.
