Does anyone know if the military still issues "switch-blades", and if so, who can get them? Who makes them? Are they worth having?

There are Benchmade automatic knives in the new USAF survival kits. These same knives are issued to the USCG Rescue Swimmers, and are being tested by aircrew saftey folks down at Ft Rucker for possible inclusion in Army aircraft survival kits. I have one, and its great. They have an NSN, but I don't recall it off-hand, so ask Mark92A to look it up on FEDLOG. Caution, they run $210 civilian, and $105 GSA, so not many units have the cash to blow on them.

Thanks for the info, does the blade come from the end or side of the knife? What color are the scales? What is the blade length? Thanks again.

Pulled the knife out last night. The NSN is etched in the side of the blade, and its 1095 01 446 4348. It should come up on the log system as "knife, automatic". It folds like a regular folder (pivots from one end). The scales are actually part of the frame, and are 6061 aluminum with a non-reflective black coating, which is also on the blade. I didn't measure the blade length, but its between 3.5 & 4.5 inches, I think. The blade is half straight, half serrated. Its a decent knife, IMO.

All,

The Benchmades are awesome, especially when you get your supply SGT to order it for you and you get it for free.. Benchmade has a web site, I dont recall the URL, but play arround with it, you'll find it.. Also, there is another auto knife for survival kits, it has an orange handle and NON serrated blade. Not nearly as cool as the benchmades.. I'll run the NSN and get you a price..

Is this the SBT 2000?

Trying to get the NSN (if available) for a knife by benchmade that I believe is the SBT 2000. Any Info would help.
