Interesting social commentary. This woman has pretty much been in marketing her whole career and is credited with the term "metrosexual". I think she makes some pretty interesting comparisons. I'm not a member of either of these generations (born in '73). I've never seen a comparison like this before and was wondering what other like-minded individuals think of the commentary.

The cusper generation is as much an ideal as it is a demographic group, and that appeal extends well beyond the birth years that define it. Watch out for tweets (messages on the Twitter platform) that proclaim "Ich bin ein cusper."
The title of her article should have been "Ich Bin Ein Worthless Cunt"
That goes double since she invented the whole "metrosexual" thing. What a load of self indulgent tripe.

Actually, I think she makes some very valid points. I've been saying for years, that it was the baby boomers who have fucked alot of shit up. Obviously, you can't lump everyone in there, but who was it that gave us the whole, "If it feels good, just do it" mantra? Let's look at some other stuff they've done. (and I am at the very end of the boomers). They were the ones that were the hippies in the 60's. They knew more than their repressive parents, they questioned authority, they were the ones, that thought the world owed them something.
Obviously, every generation has these same types, but I think a lot of bad shit today should be laid at the feet of that generation. Of course there were millions from there, that didn't subscribe to those ideals, and went out and worked hard and got ahead on merit.

Some of this has to be laid on the feet of the parents (aka the "Greatest Generation") who raised them, and taught them the values they took with them.

"Boomers" are considered by Executive Search companies to be among the best candidates for jobs because they have a tendency to be loyal and work harder. How does that fit in with the blame bullshit?
As already noted, greed has no birthdate. And the current situation isn't the result of one generation, or even two or three... it's the result of multiple generations actions.

This Slunt and is a perfect example of the "Take no personal responsibilty" Generation. Somebody else is to blame for everything, not to mention that Bush is the cause of 99% of todays world problems, and that Obama is the savior of the Universe.

She seems to be trying to convince herself that all will be well when the boomers die off and the cuspers take over. No personal accountability, Its their fault, not mine. What a fucking idiot!

Guess that makes me a greedy "me 1st asshole."
Me and a whole bunch of us assholes did 2 tours with 5th SF, came home, got jobs, went to school on the bill, became productive citizens and generally fucked up everything in the world with our selfish atitudes.
I guess they ought to take us out and shoot us.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
-Marian Salzman: For 30 years, baby boomers dominated politics, culture
-She says they've earned the title of the "greediest generation"
-Salzman says next generation of "cuspers" is taking over with Obama
-The cuspers are different and unlikely to repeat boomers' mistakes, she says
Not necessarily the Boomers that wreaked the problems we're now experiencing, but Democrats/Liberals disguised as the offspring of the Greatest Generation. Cuspers, now named, will continue the jack-assery of social experimentation at the taxpayers expense.

I didn't see the article as a personal attack or a blame game. I saw it as an attempt to explain generational views. It seems every generation wants to point fingers, as it's always been. Just like most arguements, there's some truth to it.
Many view the 'Greatest' generation in awe, rightfully so. They were traditionalists and cam back from WWII wanting to give their kids the freedoms that they fought for. Maybe they gave too many? I don't know. This is still the hallmark generation for Conservatives and Uncle Ronnie is the figurehead.
The Boomers are seen as re-defining everything; marriage, age, social norms, etc. The boomers crated the 1970s and 1980s with the 'Me' lifestyle. It is this light that sees them as 'greedy.' Don't trust those over 30. Then 40 is the new 30 (when Farrah Fawcett turned the big 4-0). Then 50 is cool (Dennis Hopper on those stupid AMEX commercials). Viagra commercials, I can go on. Now they are in power and are still defining things, for better or worse. They even raised their kids differently.
My generation (X) is the result of the boomer's desire to 'have it all.' Careers and family. As a result, we're called the 'latchkey kids' and children of non-traditional familes (read - divorce, another social norm re-defined by boomers). We're seen as independent and not wanting to follow authority since many of us raised ourselves. Look at the music that defines us: grunge rock. Total opposite of the KC and the Sunshine band stuff that the boomers like.
Then there is the Y genration that are children of the late boomers and 'cuspers.' This generation is the one with 'hover parents' and the honest belief that everyone is special. Many see this generation as needy because their parents are living vicariously thorugh them (another 'greedy' action).
Do these blanket statements cover everone? Certainly not. Especially those on a site populated predominantly by ex-military folks. But I see her points and think some are valid. She's also re-hashing stuff I heard in corporate HR seminars, master's degree classes, and on the radio. It's not even a liberal view, there are some pretty conservative folks out there saying this very same thing.
Folks that lived through the depression called the next generation 'hippies,' that generation called the next 'slackers,' that generation thinks the next are a bunch of metrosexual pussies. Whatever. It's a paradigm shift. No need to get huffy about it, especially since most of us have risen above the trappings of 'normal' society by volunteering to serve our county. We don't fit into any of these molds. We're a whole culture upon ourselves.

What a twat...and yes, this is a "Bush was the Antichrist, Obama will be the Messiah," piece sort of. The people responsible for fucking up the country right now range from those born in the 30s to those born in the early 90s...greed has spanned many generations.

For starters, she's lumping everybody born after 1953 as "cuspers", whatever the hell that is. Her definition is a little too all inclusive of everybody born during those years, and doesn't even come close to defining them (us?) in any specific way.
I was born the same year as Obama, and as I was growing up 1962 was generally considered the cutoff for the baby boom generation, basically the generation born of parents who came of age during the war and started families during the post war years.
In effect, the tail end of the baby boom generation is taking the reins, and probably will continue to rise to positions of political and business power well into this century. We may differ quite a bit in our outlook from those born earlier in the baby boom generation, but we are still of the same generation, no matter what she says.
Obama's mother, while technically not part of the baby boom, is for all intents and purposes a baby boomer herself. My parents were absolutely nothing like her, and my upbringing reflects values that were instilled in them during the depression. Also, being the youngest, I grew up wearing a lot of the castoffs from my older brothers, and so I probably have more in common with my parents experiences than my older baby boomer peers ever did.
But that doesn't define me as a cusper, just a bit younger than my older generational peers and with some different outlooks, which is to be expected. I don't really feel any connection with Barack Obama, other than the fact that we are relatively close in age. If anything, he has more in common with the older boomer generation. Which hardly makes him representative of this so called "cusper" element to which the author alludes.
