I've been out since 1997 but am a member of a CI association with alot of current active duty members who will know the current answer.

If things are the way they were when I was in you can't reenlist for 97B like you can for other MOS's. You must go through the applicant process which can take anywhere from 3 mos. to a year, depending on your' current security clearance. You must be accepted by DAMI-CI (Department of the Amry Military Intelligence - Counterintelligence Branch) to get in the MOS and the applicant process is quite rigorous (academically, mentally not physically). Anyway, I will find out the current process and let you know, give me a day or so.

Well, here is the first reply I have received so far from email I sent to the association members:

"As of a month ago (last time I checked the PERSCOM homepage) all applications for 97B were to be halted. The freeze is expected to be anywhere from the fall to about 2 years. We are no longer on the critical
shortage list. When the ban is lifted, there is an application process that
a soldier must go through. This can be in conjunction with the BEAR program
for re-enlisting soldiers."

Doesn't look good.
