Frog,
I saw that you said you were a former Marine Officer.
If you don't mind me asking what made you decide to switch into the Seals and what job did you hold in the Corp. Were you ever in Recon.
Thanks - Jack Ryan

Was Infantry 0302, 3rd Bn 5th Marines. Went to Jump while I was in NROTC, then 2nd Class Scuba after my deployment to Okinawa as a Plt Cdr/XO. During that time you had to be a regular grunt before trying out for Recon. After my FMF tour, I was ordered to a non-FMF tour, which then made me too senior for Recon, but not for an inter-service transfer to the Navy and BUD/s - which offers a 30 yr career in NSW. Still going at it after 22 yrs

Frog -
We don't mind you posting on the MEU site. Most of your posts are good and for how much Rat and SSD post everywhere it is a non-issue.

Frog,
After BUDS did you go straight into a Seal Team since you already had airborne and infantry skills and did you find that having already been scuba qualified this help in successfully completing BUD/s.
One last question. Did you find it very difficult getting an interservice transfer being an officer and did you have to give up any rank in transfering.
Thanks for the help/info - Jack Ryan

-Went straight to a Team.
-Being a qualified Navy Diver while going through 2nd Phase certainly helped and dive physics was a breeze the second time around.
-Only officers can do interservice transfers. Enlisted have to get out of their current contract and enlist into the other service. Yes it was difficult; it took about 6 months to get the paper through HQ Marine Corps and then BUPERS. Luckily they were in the same building. I made 2 trips to hand walk the papers through everyone's "in box". Afterwards, it was just like re-enlisting - got my Honorable Dishcharge in one hand while raising my other to join the Navy. Leave, Pay, and date of rank all carried over. Reported directly to BUD/S after having to stop by the exchange to buy Navy uniforms. Then my "high and tight" was styled into just "tight".

Thanks for the info Frog. That's some pretty interesting stuff.
What did your unit in the Corp think about you transfering. Were they cool about the situation or was there some tension?
Still going after 22 years. Are you going to go for the full 30 years?
Thanks - Jack Ryan
