I have a 12 hour layover in Dublin on a Thursday night starting around 9pm. Any ideas for a decent night on the town, and is it worth it to make the trek into town?

Yes it is. Dublin is great.
St. Stephen's Green, Harcourt Street, Camden Street, Wexford Street and Leeson Street are all GTG.
The Temple Bar area is very good.

My wife and I spent 2 weeks in Dublin back in spring 2006. It is definitely worth it if you can get into town. IIRC, the airport was about 20 minutes or so from downtown. Go check out the Brazen Head Pub (Capel Street) near Temple Bar which is reputed to be the oldest pub in ireland. It is a short walk from Christchurch Cathedral which is also cool for night time photos. Having lived in Europe for about 8 years in two different countries I would say that Ireland was by far the friendliest place that I experienced.

True, but there is also a violent undercurrent. Watch out for groups of drunk young men, same as anywhere else.
If I only had 12 hours I'd hit Temple Bar.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Now if I can just make it back to the airport on time...

 Situational Awareness applies even when getting out of the shower. I was simply commenting on the attitude of the people in general that we experienced. Northern Ireland was GTG also.

Not sure when you will be there, and if the day has already passed sorry. If not, have a look at the "Brazen Head" its a small bar but it is the oldest in Ireland (built in 1198). The Guinness is good, the people are friendly, and the trad session starts nightly about 21:00...
