Has anyone visited the AAFES website (http://www.aafes.com) lately and seen the U.S. Divers ''Life Support'' Package 2 that they offer out to sporting goods. I'm new to civilian diving and just got my PADI cert a little while ago, so I was wondering if anybody knows if this is a good deal.

It contains:

1) Titan Regulator:Features diaphragm activated Titan balance first stage with Comfo-Bite mouthpiece and 30" high-flow hose (1HLP and 4LP hose ports). Standard size, bright neon yellow.

2) Octopus: Provides easy breathing with advanced 2nd stage technology. 39" hose.

3)Sonic 2 Buoyancy Compensator: Heavy-duty design includes twin torso-adjustable shoulder straps with quick-release buckles. Soft, padded backpack. Adjustable, depth-compensating velcro cummerbund. Stainless steel accessory D-rings. 2 large pockets, expansion gussets, air mic inflator with pull dump and tank cam-lock strap with grip pad.

4)DS3 Console: Tracks surface interval time, dive planning, multiply decompression diving with easy-to-read, large LCD digital graphics. Also provides multi-diving information, dive/air time remaining, total bottom time and current depth. Low battery indicator.

5)Mariner Gear Bag: Heavy-duty coated nylon bag with 2" supporting web and inside dry pocket.

All of that for $729. It sounded like a good deal compared to the prices I had glanced at in the dive shop, but I was hoping to get some input here.

Hi cavscout,

That's not a bad deal, especially compared to what you'll shell out at a civilian dive chop...er, shop I mean. While it's not the top of the line USD, it's second. What's the octopus they have in the package? I've used the sonic 2 bcd's and they are a good comfortable rig as well. I wouldn't recommend doing any uw work in one, but for fun diving, they're great. An instructor I work with just bought 10 of them.

All in all for 7 hundred and some change, I'd say go for it.

Take care and be safe.
