I like to dive with mask, fins and snorkel. The problem is that every time I go in the water and dive, my ears hurt me beacuse of the pressure.

My question is can I avoid the pain?

Thank you.

You need to get your ears checked by a DR.

If you are having problems with a breath hold and you are getting an inner ear squeeze something is wrong.

Are you clearing them correctly? You have to know how to do the valsalve or you can risk ear damage. Thats a fancy word for holding your nose and closing you mouth and blow out gently until you hear and feel your ears kinda pop. Never blow hard for the chance of ear damage. Research the technique on the internet and once your comfortable.no worries.

Also, start immediately upon descent. The greatest pressure change occurs in the first 33'. If you wait until they're really hurting, the pressure will be too great and you'll have to ascend a few feet to clear. A pinch and blow every couple of feet should be fine.

S_W, also if you have had a perforated ear drum it will cause problems while trying to dive. Something I have found that works is to shake my jaw from side to side repeatedly, it just seems to work better for me. Any ENT probs you have suffered from in the past may cause you discomfort while trying to equalize. If you have had tubes in your ears from what I am told they discourage diving....Hope this helps...
