Any of you guys cigar smokers?
I have a friend that I am going to give a gift to for some help he has given me.
I know the Cohiba's and the Fuentas, and the Maker's Marks, etc... anyone got any suggestions on a good smoke besides what I have listed above?
Thanks in advance!

What type does your friend like? Mild, harsh, sweet, not sweet
I am a Rocky Patel 1990 guy myself.
But I can go down the list of cigars. I have had a 4 dollar cigar that was better than a 100 dollar Cohiba.
Depends on your taste.

My choice as well. The Padron 1926s have never disappointed me. $15-20 a stick but worth every penny.
The Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur is also an excellent smoke.
****If you want to get him something he'll never forget, try the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel Maduro. It's best to eat a big steak dinner before smoking this one...The natural version is powerful, but the Maduro is sneaky strong—you don't feel the power until it's upon you.cool:

Check out some of H Upmanns cigars as well, they're pretty mild . Just scored half a box of Cuban Upmann puros and have almost gone thru all of em.

Bolivars are really good. I believe Arturo Fuentes were mentioned; excellent, even smokes.
My .02, including TARP bailout money.

Looking at your user name, I figured you were going to say Cohiba, since you basically just swapped the C and B around...

1. Arturo Fuentes Gran Reserva
2. Rocky Patel 1990
3. Ancient Warrior from Gurkha
4. AVO #2
All great choices. You guys can keep your $20.00 dollar smokes.

Nice. Didn't even notice that.
Punch makes a good smoke, too, and I don't think they are overly expensive. But I think the better ones are the Habanos, IIRC. Been a while since I smoked a Punch.

An ole habit given up 10 yrs ago,
All the yuppie scum suddenly buying my favorite cigars in the early 90's ruined my hobby. Prices tripled from 92'-2000', fucking fad smokers.
1-Avo - great mild smoke any ring size
2-Macanudo Prince Phillipe
3-Arturo Fuente - Double Chateau
Bolivar Habanas from my friend whom turned me on to socnet (free monthly for two yrs LOL...)
Never heard of Rocky Patel but he has a great website...
No more cigars for me.....

If your friend is a regular cigar smoker there is a good chance he'll like anything thats $4-6 per cigar in a cigar shop that has a walk in humidor. Thats a little rule of thumb that was given to me by a man who is a long time cigar smoker and has upwards of a thousand cigars in his house.
If the favor your repaying was a big one, than you can't go wrong with Cohibas or Romeo y Julietas like others have said.

Montecristo White Label is my smoke of choice and they come in all the popular sizes.
“Creamy, mild and smooth, the Montecristo White is a favorite for aficionados who appreciate a complex smoke without an overwhelming amount of strength. This cigar is one of the more recent additions to the Montecristo family. The Montecristo White was produced in response to the demand for a milder and creamier cigar, but one that like all Montecristos had a rich and definable flavor and character. With the success of the original Cuban Montecristo, which debuted in 1935, and the continued success of the non-Cuban version that was released in the 1990’s, the White has quickly become one of the most popular Montecristo line extensions. The Montecristo White is mild to medium bodied with a creamy texture and earthy aroma that is soft on the palate with a moderate finish. The Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and Dominican blend make this cigar complex yet not overbearing. This combination is what has attracted all types of cigar enthusiasts to the Montecristo White”.

Nothing special, but one of the most enjoyable cigars I have smoked was a Por Larranaga blue label. Smooth, good flavor, and fairly mild. Haven't seen them too many places though.

Save the headache. Buy him a nice pipe and a gift card to one of the internet tobacco shops. There are more different types of pipe tobacco than cigars and smoking a pipe makes you look alot smarter than you really are.

Give Macanudo a try.
Agree. Good mild cigars.
Years ago, I did a catalog for General Cigars and they gave me boxes of every cigar in their line. My personal preference was Macanudo Vintage.

Camachos are a great way to go, but they are on the expensive side. I'll second Montecristos.

I am not a cigar connoisseur... but, I know a good cigar when i have it. I really like Arturo Fuente, Punch and Macanudo. I like Cuban Monte Christo, Cohiba, and Romeo y Julieta only because they are forbidden fruit.
Here at Camp Slayer we have a cigar night every Saturday at 2000 hrs and for the $50 that I paid for a year membership, I bet I have smoked $500 worth of some great freakin' cigars! Any of you at VBC area, more than welcome to come check it out.

You can't go wrong with any of the big name Dominican makers (most are also Cuban makers). La Flor Dominicana 2000 series are really good, if you can find them. I look for good deals from a few online dealers when its time to restock, all have been a pleasure to deal with.

Good choices guys
Another resource is Thompson's Cigars http://www.thompsoncigar.com
FYI -Some cigar stores have lately been passing out free "Punch" bumper stickers that read;
"I use my cigar smoke as an Idiot repellent". ;)

Be prepared for spam, spam, and more spam from the online cigar sellers. They will even call you trying to get you to join their "monthly clubs".
Just a heads up.
