Technology may be good for a lot of things but when you send a bulldozer you might want to confirm the street address FIRST!

What a drag. That is a lot of memories. Hard to put a price on that. Hopefully he ends up owning the construction company who destroyed them.

He should have reviewed the plans. They were on display in a locked file cabinet in the basement of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council.

"...if you can't take an interest in local affairs...." Lack of access from one's hospital bed after confronting said bulldozer may also prove problematic. Damn those pesky bulldozers! Especially those operated by high school dropouts.

Not to mention the dolphins left a few weeks beforehand. Duh.

Had the plans for the bypass been filed in the basement in a locked file cabinet covered over with a sign advising: "Beware of leopards"?

Let's hope so. Big developers have deeper pockets, and this might get get Mr. Byrd a really good lawyer. Sic 'em!

And not just any house, but the house his dad built from scratch and that he grew up in.

That sucks.

Wouldn't the demo crew have entered the building and saw stuff still in the home? Don't they have to go in to make sure electrcity isnt hooked up or gas lines/ plumbing?

I feel really bad for this guy.

He was a hell of a lot more gentlemanly about his misfortune than I would have been.

I hope that he will be well compensated, although that will never make up for the family treasures that were irretrievably lost in this careless act of idiocy.

I agree, something smells fishy.

I hope this man gets a good lawyer and sues the hell out of the people involved. He should easily be able to get 10x what the house was worth, due to the sentimental items destroyed.

Wouldn't the demo crew have entered the building and saw stuff still in the home? Don't they have to go in to make sure electrcity isnt hooked up or gas lines/ plumbing?

Demo crews normally check for utility disconnects at the meters; ie gas service meter, water meter and electric service all located in the right-of way at the edge of the property (sometimes the electric is on the side of the house and blanked off with the transformer fuse kicked out), sewer is normally not considered when the potable water system is disconnected.

GPS is the SHIT now and most people in construction do not understand the basics of survey work and the fact that 1 or 2 digits can place the coordinate way off. Add to this no proper supervision and the "We have 6 more jobs to do today while being undermaned" mentality of today's hurry up world and the fact that nobody in residential work has a clue what a work order is and you have "Oops". Not to mention what the powers that be are thinking/doing/you know who this is going to benefit.

Probally a truck driver hauling a Cat(dozer) trying to get home to see his kids and little woman after working too many hours without enough rest.(I can here the Boss now "This is on your way home, just drop the Cat and knock it down, I plugged it into your GPS last night while you were loading and chaining down")

I could be wrong, but this ain't my first rodeo.

Not to mention that if he claims "sexual difficulites" due to his childhood home and family sentimental items being destroyed, he will get even more of a settlement.

I wouldn't want a new house. KBR and other companies out there build houses so incredibly jacked up it is unbelievable.

According to the sheriff’s report, the demolition was ordered by Forestar Real Estate Group Inc. Forestar called Southern Environmental Services based in Marietta to inspect the house and contract with someone to tear down the residence. The report states that Larry Watts of Southern Environmental said his company contacted North Georgia Container in Franklin to do the demolition work.

Brandon Hannah of North Georgia Container said he called Southern Environmental when he arrived at the house and described it on the phone to confirm he was at the correct house, according to the report.
