Does anyone know what's going on with the medium brigade experiment up at Lewis?

Total disaster.

All of the tested vehicles failed to meet stated goals especially in the Mobile gun System which proved totally unable to fire on the move. Actual results have been classified. Reports suggest the Army is now lowering the performance and survivability standards in hopes of getting some vehicle to pass.

Tactical doctrine seems to be progressing some what better (using leased LAV3), but there are lots of problems that haven't been addressed and LOTS of in fighting between different factions on how doctrine should be established (ie platoon leaders with vehicle or dismounts and that sort of thing).

My bet is that the medium brigades will follow the 9th Motorized and fade into history.

I knew it was going to go all to hell when they took their Paladins away and gave them M198's. Should have asked the Marines the '98 cannot keep up with our LAVs what made them think they could have keep up to theirs'.

M198 is only a stop-gap. Final artillery system will be a MAV mounting a M777.

The first XM777 isn't going to be in the field for a couple of years. So they don't even have a working model, the switch to the 98 didn't make any since to the people here at the FA school, we all thought any mobile/SP system would have been better than a towed weapon for the experiment. They also could have went with the French/GIAT Ceasar, it uses a 39 cal tube on a 5 ton chasis. Has all the automated systems like the Paladin, to include the THD, that will not even start IOC until 05.

Maybe we should take a lesson fomr the Marines. Didn't they decide that the LAV was an excellent armored recon platform, but decided it wasn't a good infantry vehicle?

Just wondering what you all think of the Wiesel and BMD for light armor, and if the Sheridan would still be survivable on the modern battlefield.

Thanks,
Terry

As for the Sherridan, they dont even make parts for it anymore.. Thats why at NTC, they are pasing them out and going with the OSV.. The Sherridan has served it's purpose, it's time to phase it out totally, IMHO..
