I got 3 weeks of fun over there starting pretty soon. Anyone have any ideas of what there is to do over there? I heard El Paso is pretty shitty (I've only just drove through the place, however I've come to a similar conclusion.).

That was my first inclination, haha. Just wanted to make sure. I mean fuck, what fucking idiot vacations in El Paso (besides illegals).

Looks like I'll be passing the time thinking of colorful ways to kill myself. Yay:rolleyes:

I only spent a week there, but it was a boring fucking week. If you golf you're probably in luck.

I heard the Mexican food sux!

Go to Juarez to get laid

Go to Juarez to get the shit kicked out of you

Go to Juarez to get killed

Go to Juarez to get drunk and/or stoned

If you go to Juarez I advise to park on the US side and walk over. Don't drive over!

Lot of cool ranges to drive around and see on Bliss...Castner is cool.

There is a good steak house a few exits down the road and it is right on the highway. Cool place, great steaks. Cannot remember the name.

It's pretty sad. When I was growing up we used to go to Juarez to the dog races all the time, several times a year. We
always stayed at the Camino Real on the Mexican side. Living in W Tx that was one of the few vacation destinations
within driving distance. It used to be a very nice place to go. Nowdays I'd be afraid to be in El Paso after dark, much
less Juarez even in the daylight.

Club 54, on Hwy 54 between Bliss and McGergor Range Camp....that was "our place" when we were running the desert phase of Ranger school at Bliss. That was 15+ years ago, so the intell is old

You could always go to Ft. Huachuca and pick up AIT MI girls on their first leave weekend. That's probably what I'd do.

A drive up to Carlsbad Caverns is a great way to spend a day or two. There are some very scenic spots along the route, and the walk through the caverns is memorable.

Here's the National Park Service link: http://www.nps.gov/cave/index.htm

The El Camino Real Restaurant down near the river is pretty good.

You could always run or bike the TransMountain Expressway...Be prepared to be picked up by a buddy, its not an easy ride/ bike...

If you play racquetball, Fort Bliss has some the best courts I've ever played on- 2 of them are glass backed with 3 'regular' courts around the corner.

Challenge courts all the time on the glass backed courts- but you'd better bring your A game...;)

Cattleman's is not to be missed. Take I-10 East to the Fabens exit. Take a left and you cant miss it on the right. It's the only thing out there. Best steak I ever ate. Bar none.

Carlos & Mickeys on Montana is a good restaurant.

Graham Central Station for nightlife.

The USBP Museum is pretty cool.

Juarez aint so bad. Good restaurants.

There's a decent Japanese restaraunt in El Paso-owned and run by Japanese (which is pretty rare)

I spent a half-year down there at USASMA and I don't recall much of interest. There are something like three small reservations in the area if you want to try some Indian food. Also some very good Mexican restaurants. If you have a girl or wife who likes Indian jewelry you can start a nice collection with a couple of different tribes there. About the most fun I had was to go down to the bridge on a Sunday morning and watch a few thousand Mexicans cross the river (which is about 20 feet wide there). They came in human waves and it was fun to watch the border guards try to grab one or two. There were some small nearby mountains with paths that you could hike, but for the life of me I can't think of anything else. Yeah, you are kind of screwed.

I got 3 weeks of fun over there starting pretty soon. Anyone have any ideas of what there is to do over there? I heard El Paso is pretty shitty (I've only just drove through the place, however I've come to a similar conclusion.).

A couple of machine gun nests and grenade launchers would have taken care of that and added some excitement.

I got lucky in my stay there during 2003. During some fair I saw my old '80s rocker ‘fap fap fap dream' live in concert: Pat Benatar.
She still looked good even though she had a couple of kids. Love that mouth. Damn little firecracker!

She was promoting her new album at the time.

You clowns have no imagination :D
1. Jaxons steak and brewry, great beers, brewed on site.
2. Cattleman's: 3 hours for a great steak, shitty service, and VERY high prices, plus visit a movie set or two
3. The "House of Pawn" downtown by the plaza...everything from prostitution licenses of old El Paso (1800's), to modern carney / sideshow memorabilia
4. Aztec cave and other hiking trails through the Franklin Mountains Nat'l park. One even has a 40ft bouldering wall that has to be scaled to complete the hike.
5. Hueco Rock Ranch - some of the best outdoor climbing in the area (lead and bouldering)
6. Plaza Theater downtown for live shows at low prices
7. University of Texas at El Paso - open venue for any number of shows...including Mesa street behind the colege which is always crowded with chicks slobbering all over each other and damn near any guy willing to buy them drinks.
8. Three Legged Monkey on Montana - if you want to go and fight a bunch of E-4 and below for looking at each other with an attitude.
9. For the REALLY adventurous - there are 3 swingers clubs on far Montana that will allow single military males with ID - but you have to go through their "screening process and class" before the weekend events
10. El Paso dirt track raceway - MWR constantly has free tickets
11. El Paso Diablos AAA Baseball - always a good time, if MWR doesn't have free tickets, open seating is $2 for military
12. Damn near every culture of resturant owned by that particular nationality...including Mexican, Iraqi, Jewish, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Jordanian, Indian, and I am certain there are a few others I cannot think of at the moment.
13. You can get awsome street food cooked on a 55 gal drum for a dollar US, and you can get $100 a plate appetizers from world renowned 5 star chefs...as well as everything in between all within a few blocks of one another.
14. White Sands and Carlsbad, both as already mentioned.
15. 30 Miles up the road to Las Cruces - and the University of New Mexico @ LC. College = Party

There is more - but as I am in the Stan right now I cannot think of it at the moment, AND I have been gone for a few months...but -
I like living in El Paso, Bliss sucks, but El Paso has a lot to offer.
