Is there a replacement on the horizon for this GPMG?

I'm not too familiar with the suffixes, but if the "G" is the infantry version, I doubt it will be replaced any time soon, because I think it was introduced pretty recently.

Well since nobody's come up with anything better in the last forty years, I reckon the MAG will be in service for another forty ( in some places at least ). BTW when did it enter service with US forces?- I thought it was pretty recently but a photo in the Gulf War section of this site shows SF guys with an infantry version.

The 240G entered Marine Corps service in mid 1995. My company at MCT was the first to shoot the 240 instead of the m-60. I think most of the fleet got theirs in late '95 to early '96.

Rigger- May have run into you aboard USS Shreveport. Got the lowdown on the M240 from Marines who did the testing; they were aboard in early '96.

What has the general reaction been in the States to the M240/MAG as opposed to the M60.

1026, you must be thinking about someone else ,since I've never been aboard the Shreveport.

Thanks, Rigger, just wondering.
