Stupid question here, but wondering if any of the locals might have some advice since I'm not familiar with the area.
I'm heading to South Florida in January and will be staying for a night in the Ft Lauderdale - Miami area.
Any info on a good modestly priced Hotel near FLL with a shuttle would be great. This is the first time I've flown into FLL, it's always been MIA before but the price was right. I would like to be south of the airport as I have to go to Miami the next morning.
Also, if anyone wants to link up--holler.

I would suggest maybe Hollywood. Its south of Ft. Lauderdale(just barely) and only about 5 to 10 min. from the airport. There is a LaQuinta and Holiday Inn that both have shuttles I believe. I'd have to check. Better yet you could stay at the Ramada Inn in downtown Hollywood and be able to walk to several bars and resturants. Its maybe a $20 cab ride from airport. The other question is how are you going to get to Miami the next day cause that would be an expensive cab ride! Let me know if you're intersted and I will look around.

January,, Hi-season for Snow-Birds. The only thing modest is the 80 yr old lady from New Jersey that only wears a straw hat to the beach..
Suggestions,, one nite stay??

Oh dear god, that's horrible. That will haunt me the rest of my days!
Hollywood sounds good. Is the Holiday Inn the one off of 95? If so, I think I've already checked it out, just need some area knowledge.
I've got the Miami transportation taken care of. Thanks for the input.

I would suggest maybe Hollywood.
Isn't Dania Beach closer to FLL than Hollywood is? I think hotels are better priced there too.

Dude,
The new "W" Ft. Lauderale is sweeeet! great pool deck directly across from the beach. I was just down there a few weeks ago, awesome, well worth it. Part of the Starwood family (Sheraton, Westin, Four Points, St. Regis, Le Meridean etc)

The HardRock would be a great place to stay. Of course it depends what day of the week you will be staying. Most of the night clubs are closed mon-thurs I believe, if thats what you are looking for. They do have a few good places to eat, I have tried a couple of them, however the rooms are a bit on the expensive side I feel. Especially on the weekends. All in all it is a fun place.
Dania Beach is closer than Hollywood but just barely. The hotels in Dania are less than desireable I would say. Unless I'm missing one, most are located on US 1 and are regularly used by crack monsters and women of the night. Dania boarders on Hollywood and thats were I usually chase all the people of the night to!
Both the Holiday Inn and La Quinta are right off I95. We have had some problems with people getting robbed in the parking lot off the Holiday Inn but I think alot of those people weren't aware of there surroundings and were easy targets.
Agreed FLL has a beautiful beach and has great hotels, however that will take you north of the airport and not along I95 if that is one of your concerns.
Hollywood also has the Weston Diplomat which is awsome, and the Marriott which is right on the beach. A claim FLL can't make! Both these Hotels fall out of the moderately priced range though.
Really what it come down to is what are you looking to do on that one night?

Looking to sleep. Don't get in until 2000hrs. Now, a couple weeks later I am going to be there for a day and that will include all day and then overnight. I was thinking about the Ramada Hollywood beach resort. it looks pretty cool and is right on the water.
