I posted a message way back asking about Victoria-area Reserves, now I'm asking about Vancouver Reserves, and specifically the Seaforth Highlanders, which I guess is the only Infantry unit in the area. Looks like I'll be at UBC next year, so I'm wondering about the Seaforths.
How far is the Armoury from the UBC campus? is it hard to get too from there?
How big is the unit, and how often are they in the field?
And a general question, is it worth going through the trouble of transferring, or should i just quit here and rejoin there?

Thanks for your help!

The Seaforths are located not far from UBC, probably a 15 min drive. There is also the Royal Westminster Regiment located in New Westminster as well.

I've never even heard of the Royal Westminster Regiment before, but I just checked out their homepage. Are they closer to UBC? How large are they, and what of a reputation do they have?
I put in my transfer papers on tuesday, so I guess I better choose a regiment...

The Westies are located further away from UBC but the unit is larger. There is A Coy in New Westminster and B Coy further away in Aldergrove. The unit has a very good reputation. Obviously I have a biased opinion, being a Westie but so far I've been really happy. I can try and answer any other questions via e-mail if you like.

Enfield, the Seaforth Highlanders and the Royal Westminster Regiment are both close to UBC...(no bridges to cross...saves major time.) The Seaforth Armoury is located on Burrard Street, 15 min from the campus by bus or drive.(I drove by it on my way to school everyday lastyear)A bus from the UBC campus will drop you off right close, making it very accessible. The Royal Westminster Regiment would be a little trickier as it is a good 30-45 min, following Marine Drive. I also go to UBC, and you can email me at coleubc@hotmail.com if you want.
Starlight, I am planning on joining the Westies, A Company this fall when I return to school. I plan on getting in touch with the regiment's recruiter in mid-August when I head down to the lower mainland. If you have any advice or tips, I would be happy to hear from you Thanks.

Thanks for your help guys. I guess to keep it easy I'll join the Seaforth Highlanders, just because they're closer and since I don't know the city I want to keep it simple. Just out of curiosity, Cole, if the Sefaorths are closer, what makes you want to join the New Westminster Regiment?

Cheers!

Enfield, I am joining the Royal Westminster Regiment because I will be living in Burnaby, hence closer to the Armoury.

Funny how Canada has more Scottish regiments than Scotland! We also have a couple over here: Transvaal Scottish, Cape Town Highlanders, Pretoria Highlanders(my father's old regiment); all are part-time force.
