All I specificaly want to know is if the CF have a elite ground unit i.e. The Rangers for the US? I already know about JTF-2. Does the CF even have Special Forces like the US does?

Cabezo- most countries can't afford all the separate units that the US has.If you look around the international section you will see many countries have only one or two spec ops units. I'm sure JTF-2 would do SAS/SF type operations if required.( I'm pretty sure 22 SAS helped set it up, along with US units). Canada used to have an Airborne Regiment but it has been disbanded.

I think , I won't add to Baboon's answer because it would the same answer. But I would like to add that JTF-2 have been compared a lot with the British SAS, because of the selection process, the training and the capabilities of these two units. But we are on the outside and the real information on them is inside. So we don't know for sure what they are all about. Wich by the way is fine with me. http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/smile.gif

Enfield,
Not even close. Thats all i can say, the only ones near are the jump companies of each, PPCLI, RCR and Vandoos.
I know it was a dig but I can't help but comment after hearing all summer in gagetown "US sucks, US tactics suck, US troops suck etc. etc." Having served in both, I am ocnfident the 75th Ranger Regiment is THE best light infantry unit in the world. Canada has major US envy.

Cree, I think Enfield was just being sarcastic...I least that's how I understand his post. (Enfield am I wrong ?)

Beside I don't think we want to start that USA versus CF sh*t. We all know that it goes nowhere and some might catch some lost bullets!

Take care !

Cree Warrior - I was just being sarcastic, a little patriotism. =o) I am willing to concede that the US Rangers are better than the three Canadian "leg" Regiments.
So how was Phase 2? I saw your course around M5, tried to figure out which one might be you.
After the 75th, Canadian Reserves must be a little less satisfying. How do you find being in the Reserves?

Cree Warrior - What other units in the world would you classify as "light infantry"? i am assuming you mean "commando-like" light infantry, so are you including the following units in your comparison with the rangers:

- British Paras
- British Royal Marine Commandos
- FFL
- San Marco Battalion

Etc. etc. Just curious who you're putting on the list of the "Best Light Infantry Unit" category. Don't take as a flame, just a simple question.

Okay here we go. I know I over reacted, I guess you got me there.
I will qualify my statement. I'm not world renown expert on light infantry units, but I've trained with a number form your list. I think that anyone can say that "yah, our unit is the best, blah, blah" thats unit pride and every unit should believe that. However, in my opinion, 75th Ranger Reg't, has the best OVERALL light infantry unit in the world for numerous reasons; 1)Training (ie. training budget is HUGE = tons of live fire training) 2)Logistical support, 3)Close Air support, 4) Internal and external Fire support, 5)Political/popular support, 6)Drawing base (75 th gets the cream of the crop of 500,000 soldiers and recruits the cream of the crop from high schools and universities across the US). Thats all I can think of off hand. We could all give examples of anecdotal incidents where units trained against or with other units, and did this or that, but if I were a hostile power in the world, the unit I would be most afraid of knocking on my door would be the US Army 75th Ranger Regiment.

Enfield,
I was doing BCT, which is the "reserve" Phase 3 "High speed, low drag" was our motto. We had combined on the course ex Airborne reg't, French foreign Legion, Ranger Reg't (myself) a bunch of ex reg force guys with multiple tours. Not a bunch of RMC pukes like the phase 3 "full time Cock course". Tell that to your "Ring Knocking" buddies! Hah.

Ring Knocker?? me?! I'm just a Reserve Private.
I was just in M5 same time as you guys were and saw ya around. And a buddy of mine Augmenteed on your Phase 3, and he mentioned an ex-Ranger on the course.
I apologize if I gave the impression that I don't respect Reserves Officers - and you raised some good points regarding that. (The ex-Airborne guy on your course was from my unit, an excellent and highly respected leader, everyone's glad he went for Officer)

Congrats on your course!

Hey Cree Warrior,

Do you have a copy of the schedule for the BCT course? I.E. how many hours of instruction on each particular PO/EO? I wouldn't mind taking a look. I probably know some of the guys on your course because they may have been on my BAOT which I did a year before you.
