View Full Version : Anyone Check Out Law Abiding Citizen?

I think that this was a pretty damn good movie. Not so much because the main character was killing everyone in sight...but because of the message about true justice and not compromising with murderers.

****SPOILER ALERT*****DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU PLAN TO SEE***

However, I think the point of the movie was lost upon the whole "command element" that he eventually tried to kill (but was outfoxed by Foxx)...whereas Jamie Foxx's character was the only character who seemed to learn that lesson about what you get when you try to compromise with true, determined, and evil people (although Butler's character wasn't evil for the sake of being evil). I think more people would've gotten the point (and learned something from it) had he actually been able to completely carry out his plan. Yeah...I know, I sound like a shithead for saying that; but it seems that all of Butler's planning was wasted on trying to teach one dude a lesson, as opposed to teaching ALL OF US a lesson about what is truly right or wrong.

The movie ended wrong.

Butler should have walked off into the sunset with some hot babe on his arm--with Philly in flames in the background

Well...I think that's exactly how it should've ended...not because Butler should be glorified for blowing crap up, but because the town was entirely full of people who just *don't fucking get it*.

I'm probably in the minority on this one, and I appologize to all you big city dwellers, but no movie in which a large US city is seen burning at the end can be all bad!

The reviews were bad in NY. I read three newspapers and the best they gave it was 1 1/2 stars. Of course, any time one man takes on corruption and kicks ass you have to see the movie so I will make every attempt to catch it this week.

Yea, the critics pretty much panned it...*but*: Seems like everything THEY hate: I LOVE! And, of course, the opposite is true as well: What they love....I, inevitably, hate...

The only "barometer" I have for a good movie is this: I want to feel better when it's *over* then I felt when it started....if so: money well spent!! Screw the critics! This was one damn good movie! Could have had a better ending but...I still loved it.

Was it NYC? Was I in the background peeing on it?

I can't stand that shithole. I'll drive 200 miles out of my way going up North just to bypass it.

Now that is just wrong.

Everyone knows that if Philly is going up in flames then it will be due a bomb the police drop on a bunch of criminals living in a row home........

I don't know, Leaving Las Vegas was a damn good flick, but I didn't feel f'ckn nothin' was better than shit when it was done. Except maybe relief I wasn't him, but that's it.

That's always been true. Every movie the critics hate, I really enjoy and vice versa.

I've come to the conclusion that they are all high when they write their reviews.

lol...yea...high on themselves, is more like it...bunch of smarmy, hollywood bootlicking buttheads! They call good movies "crap" and wonder why they stuff they "love" does so crappy at the box office. Very few of them are actually "in touch" with what normal people like....oh well, nothing new there.

Heh. Good one.

It has been a long time.... if I recall correctly, I think that the survivors raked in millions in compensation payments?

The cops did that neighborhood a favor when they bombed it! It was a shit hole!

A major comfort during my career was knowing that I worked for the only State Police agency in the nation that ever dropped a bomb from a helo.

I flew in a few of ours, and before every flight I'd ask the pilot if we were going to Philly, and if so, I had to go home and get my bombs.

Filthy, crowded, buildings that block the sun, too cold, too hot, too many people, too many rude people, too many yelling people, too many self-absorbed people, too many people, too many cars, too much goddamned noise, too much traffic, too many hipsters, and too many people like you ;)

People like me are friggin awesome.
As to the hipsters... yes, their infestation is a problem and I admit it is sickening.
I concede that neighborhoods with genuine life and flavor have been taken over by these vermin.
The only thing I can say in defense of my beloved city, regarding these trend following hipsters... is that they are outsiders.
They are not native New Yorkers.
They are trustfund kids from the rest of the country who have decided to come and fuck up my city.
Inshallah, they will be gone some day and the city will survive them.

Everyone from NY thinks they are the most awesome, and that NYC is the center of the known universe, and the rest of the world revolves around them.

Case in point... Donald Trump.

Some people see it differently.

That is the problem with the majority of the NYC natives I have met through the years. The world revolves around them. There are shitloads of New Yorkers in south Florida, most still have that same view. I just tell them...well if you like it so much, please go back and live there. The majority of New Yorkers could learn a thing or two about manners from low life trailer trash rednecks or low life gang banger hood rats. I really wish I was kidding.

I've never been to NYC. I don't plan on going. A couple of people I knew in the Army 30 years ago convinced me it was somewhere I never needed to visit.

I have never figured out what the Philly P.D. was doing having 3.5 lbs of C4 to begin with.

I was born and raised in SW Florida (Sarasota County), I wholeheartedly agree. Seen it a million times in the attitudes.. everywhere...especially in the stores, driving. NYC is a very Weird place. I visited there during a lay over in the summer of 77. I remember one thing, the gals were friendly as hell, even to a Sailor... or was it because I was a Sailor? Or was it just because it was the 70's (disco era) and anyone would hump anything? LOL

JPWell with approximately 8 million + people living in NYC, I guess you met over 4 million of us.

Excuse the sarcasm... I can't help it, being a rude New Yorker and all.

 See?

That's why we like you Bro. You remind us all of that "New Yorker" we all served with in basic. ;)

I was watching a National Geographic show about the Grand Canyon. There is a log cabin in the base of the canyon. Guess who lives there? Right. A friggin New Yorker. I also caught a show about the Amazon. Yup. New Yorkers there too.

We used to call them "Mupears".

You know... "I'm mupear from Brooklyn..."

You got THAT right. Only it's a few hundred thousand if you add Monroe and Pike Counties together.

One major problem in that area is the parents still work in the city. At 0400 it looks like rush hour in the Poconos. Parents are away from 0400 to 1900-2100 and wonder what junior has been up to all day.

We knew.

He and his brother bloods were breaking in to all the neighbor's houses and stealing stuff to support their gangs and drug habits.

Poconos are the burglary capitol of PA.

Real crips and bloods moved into the area starting back in 95. Area went downhill FAST after that. The year I transferred we had 4 drive by shootings, two homicides (gang related) in a month. Time to pull back to the Susquehanna and set up a DMZ. That area went to hell. That's why I left. I'll never go back either.

Funny thing is, city folk think it's nice there.

The movie was great, but i think Jamie Foxx should have gotten the axe as well. Him and his conviction rate of 96%... if he would have just went to trial like the father asked it might have been different...
