Hey All,

15 November is the Walk MS event in Phoenix, AZ. It's a benefit walk for the National MS Society, and my (soon to be) mother-in-law, Kara Garber, is walking in it with her mom (Carol), husband (Scott), and the three kids (Kristin, Cameron, and Kaden).

She's 43, still has three kids at home (13, 11, and 3), and was recently diagnosed with MS. A lot of people try to tell her to slow down and take it easy, but as a mother, she refuses. She cannot.

I know the CFC just kicked off and lots of AD folks are probably being hit up to donate to a worthy cause. I wanted to throw this out there as a connection to something really close to home. To clarify, Kara will not recieve the money, it's for the National MS Society. It's a great event to help fund research into treatments/a cure for the disease, which is still largely mysterious.

For those who aren't very familiar with MS, it's an autoimmune disease which affects the brain and spinal cord. It has to do with damage to the covering of nerve cells. It can affect anyone, but it's more common in women. It's often seen between the ages of 20-40, but it can occur anytime. It also is more common in certain geographical areas.
The symptoms range from loss of balance and numbness, to frequent urination and memory loss. It is a scary disease...and especially so when there are still three kids at home who need their mom!

If you can donate $1, it will help. If you can just reply and tell your story of how MS has affected your life as well, then I'd love to hear. Kara has no idea that I'm writing this, but I may share the thread with her when it's all said and done.

Her site is: http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Walk/AZAWalkEvents?px=6340089&pg=personal&fr_id=12140

Thanks in advance

The LEAST I can do after the support you provided during the marathon. Broke now, more to follow after pay day.

Thanks for posting this. I'll e-mail to some people in my address book. Prayers out for the best.

I've supported a guy out here since my arrival. I have contributed to the MS Society since '71 for a personal reason. My father had severe MS in the '60s through '78 (died two days after I completed SFOC). I can't begin to relate everything the MS Society did for him. They are, indeed, a wonderful group.

Just had the walk this weekend.

Thanks for the contributions guys, the lady let it slip to her mom that this was up, and she teared up and started crying at the thought of it. Many thanks.
