For those that missed it first time around, it's on again. Sundays on the History Channel. 15:00 & 24:00 PST.

I wish that show didn't jump around so much so we could see more of what is going on. I find a lot of it hard to follow. Just a lot of screaming and firing.

What is Battle Stripes?

It's a TV series made by BBC about British Army platoon sergeant's training course (the equivalent s our Warrant Officer's, or 6B course)
I've read a lot about it, but only managed to see one episode (though now I'll try to catch the reruns)
It's extremely well made, and shows pretty much the entire course, and doens't really pull any punches. It shows infantry as what infantry is - no PC bull or glossing over of the rougher aspects, no anti-military tone.
It was heavily promoted by the Brit Army as a recruiting tool.

I think the Royal Marines tried something similar witha TV station, allowing themn to make a series called Commando, but apparently it put the Marines in a very bad light.

I dont like it cuz they swear, and they make the candidates feel "othered" alot. They even make them do PT eeeeek!!! How horible. Those people are just animals.

it's an excellent depiction of senior brecon, and it gives a good look at brit tactics....i especially like the episode where they do fibua, and the gurkhas play enemy force

We had a programme on Discovery Channel here called The Professionals which on each week would concentrate on one aspect of the British armed services eg. tank commander's qualifying course, Royal Engineers training, the big exercise in the States a few years back (a couple of episodes), Army Air Corps Lynx pilots.

After watching a few episodes, I'm definitly adding "GETA FOWKIN GRIP" in my field vocabulary. Funny seeing them all "oohhs 'n aahhs" during the arty firing, then next scene, slagging the arty off as pogues during the truck ride back. See, w'all the fowkin same.

When I was in Australia I saw a show on their Discovery channel called "World of Valour" or something like that. It was a regular series, and the episode I saw profiled Gurkha training and selection.
Anybody see the series? How many episodes did they make?

Enfield;

I have most of them on tape...somewhere. The episodes I saw were about the IDF,
Israeli border police, Russian VDV, Polish airborne, US Army SF, US NSW and the Gurkhas.
