This thread (http://socnet.com/showthread.php?t=81924) is a pretty good start for general places to go.
If you're going to be here on December 5 and like fights/kickboxing, you can check out the finals of the K-1 World GP at Yokohama Arena. If I hear of anything else, I'll post it here.

...I should have known there was a thread, but I was too burned out to check.

Clerk,
Stationed outside tokyo right now if you want to ask more specific questions. What are you looking for specifically?

B,
Hotels close to JAL HQ would be a great help to start.
Thanks in advance.

I have limited SA on stuff out there, I'm actually looking at wikitravel for options.
Shinagawa (where JAL HQ is located) is a pretty busy district, so it won't be cheap. Hopefully it's on the boss's dime, right?

Scroll down to sleep, you're looking at $120ish to $150ish for mid-range hotels.
Now if you make it further southwest out near yokota I can hook you up. It's about 90 mins out though, so wouldn't make sense for you.
Sorry I couldn't help more.

Try ryokan(s)! They are Japanese style hostels where it costs a lot less to stay. 15 years ago a typical stay was about USD$15-20 a night.
I do not know the present state of ryokans but (for me) it was well worth it!
If you are looking for US style accomodations, then USD$150. to infinity is the going rate. As you know, Japan is rated as one of the most expensive cities in the world and moreso if you are anywhere near Tokyo or major hub(s).
See if these fit what you want:

Justaclerk: If you're going to be staying in Shinagawa, make your way to Harajuku on a weekend and check out the freak show street performers.

If you have a CAC card you may be able to stay in billeting on Camp Zama or one of the other bases and take the train to Tokyo. That's what I do when I travel there. Just don't take the local...it will take over an hour and stops at EVERY stop! Yes, I made that mistake once!
There is also the New Sanno hotel, downtown Tokyo which is for military

Ahhh, the mil Hotel in Tokyo.
I once gave my buddy the room to himself and his American chick he picked up. And it was winter, too. As in I was friggin cold wandering the deserted streets.
That's about all I remember about that hotel....

JAC,
Great point. Do you have an id card? The New Sanno would be the ticket then.

I hate to be the wet blanket here, but unless you're traveling on orders, I wouldn't count on getting a room at The Sanno. I've never heard of anyone getting a reservation during the Thanksgiving time frame without calling at least 3 months in advance. Hardy Barracks is an option. Smaller rooms, but still right in the heart of Tokyo. I'd still call well in advance for a reservation, though.

...and my hosts are going to insist on long nights. Is mil housing close by?

Ok, close by?
By reading, it looks like JAL HQ is right in Shinagawa. I'll find more directions when I can.
Something that is really close is: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g1066451-d301378-Reviews-Shinagawa_Prince_Hotel_Tokyo-Minato_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html
Small but comfortable rooms, but perfectly located for you, and it sounds like you won't be spending too much time in them anyway. More to follow.

Looks like it'll be 5-10 minute walk. Really close, and since it's on the boss's dime, taxi will take just a few minutes and will be cheap.

...apparently our hosts have decided on The Strings as the staging hotel. Seeing as they are footing this junket it would be impolite to refuse. I will post pics of the trip after I return.
