I saw on the news a story about the CF's trucks having rusty wheels and are now dangerous to operate. Any comments?

yeah, it's true.. the MLVW's have rusty rimsor something like that and they're all in for repairs and to see how many can be salvagd. they haven't been around for months now... I think there's a repalcement in the pipes... or else Budget will be getting more business

Yup. It is the problem with the split rims. Civvies took them off the streets in the '70's, but our cheap government deams that they are good to go for the troops of Canada. The 105's can't operate either, because they too have the split rims.

Yeah, I remember about two years ago we ran out of torque rods for them as well. Nobody makes them anymore, so if they go, they have to be remanufactured. That places more limits on their cross country speed etc. Somebody better buy something new soon, or issue us steel wool and knitting needles, and we'll knit our own.

The US Army is auctioning off a bunch of trucks end of this month. Some in "Good-Fair" condition. Can't be any worse than the ML's I 've been on. I do believe they have the one-piece wheels too.

I'm not an expert on trucks, but it's your usual military two and half ton truck, six wheels. MLVW stands for "Medium Logistic Vehicle Wheeled" - there's a Light and Heavy version, but they're different types of vehicles. I've been told that apart from the rims, the MLVW is the same as the US deuce and a half.

The M35 series of vehicles (2.5 ton "deuce and a half") used by the US Army all use split rings on their rims.

The 900 series 5 ton truck family uses rims that bolt together.
