Well, it's happened. The call went out tonight for guys to do a tour, on Roto 11. But as part of the "Composite Reserve Infantry Platoon" - one secton drawn from each Infantry Regiment in 39 Brigade, and HQ augmentees (whatever that means) drawn from 41 Brigade.
There's a one month selection, and then it's off to work-ups...A year and a half of work ups that is. That makes it a two year commitment. And it appears the platoon will be entirely reservists (maybe not the warrant?). Anyways, it's the 2002/03 Rotation to Bosnia.

Oh, and word also came down that we're getting the new combats in August 2002.

I believe its going to be a Company, not a platoon. I may be wrong though, that happened once before...way back in 93'.

Woah Disturbance.. slow down. Didn't say I was going to do it - two years is a long time. I'm thinking about it.

I didn't see anything that mentioned a company, only a platoon, though a company would make sense - maybe more platoons from other Brigades? There was a unit of Artillery Reservists sent to Cyprus in the early 90's (why Arty, I don't know)

garrett - very true. Since I came out here I've done nothing but FIBUA, and there's jump courses and recce courses being offered, and now this...

heres your chance to get a tour under your belt manno. Just like you want.I have learned that you have to act on instinct in all aspects of life and if your initial gut says do it, then act on it. you wont regret it. If you think you are ready than do it...if you dont think its your time than wait for me to get in a we will bust out together on one. 8) .

Man if only I was in at the beginning of the year.

whoa...this is scary. Okay a CRIP is a good idea on paper, and an 18 month selection is pretty arduous, but who will be doing the selecting...Not that I have anything against reserve NCOs or Officers, but I really do hope it will be reg force NCOs picking the troops, reg SNCOs picking the Sect Cdrs/2ic, and reg Offcr picking the reserve officers. And if a reserve platoon ends up going, whose to say we won't be filling sandbags for 6 months.

Word from our command is it's a coy. It'd be a great go, but hard to get 2 yrs off work. And us with no employment protection. Still want to see it work out though, just hope it dosen't turn into a circus.

Yeah, it appears to be a coy. 2 Years off is hard, I'm wondering how many guys can do that.
Any idea what the one month "selection' will be? Or what the 2 years will entail? I was thinking PPCLI Battle School, extra training on APC's, and then into the regular work ups.
There's been no official discussion of this, just a notice on the board - maybe this thursday the powers that be will talk to us about it.
It seems like a good idea - everyone that just got back from the last roto had a bad experience, they got treated like shit by the Reg Force troops. Maybe making us seperate will alleviate some of that.

Just curious about the 2 year commitment for this tour. If it leaves in Sept, 2002, then that would mean work up training would start in the next few months, which I haven't heard anything about.(although that's par for the course in my unit)
In regards to the reg force treating reservists like shit I've heard that as long as you do your job well they are pretty decent and that for the most part it's the shit pumps that feel hard done by. I have no personal experience with this so any input from guys who have would be welcome.

Things are supposed to start rolling in May with, I believe, a month long selection. So volunteers have two and a half months or so to put their lives in order and disappear for 2 years - assuming they pass the selection. If someone quits their job, but is then not selected for the final group, they're pretty much fucked. At this point job protection legislation could be handy...

The unit put out a call for volunteers in the usual list of stuff they post every week, and there it was referred to as a Composite Reserve Infantry Company.
But they also posted the full description (many pages long) they were given from above, and it says a platoon drawn from 39 Brigade with HQ augmentees from 41 Brigade. So does this mean that three Brigades will each contribute a platoon?

Yup, supposed to start this spring. Full DLOC Mech inf, all the shiny kit, etc. Be good to go just for the work up training. Ooops, forgot. That would mean a year in Wainwright.

A year and a half for a 6 month tour? Why don't you guys just join the regs for a 3 year stint? Fuck, the standard is so low in the CF right now, I am waiting for the "special olympics" to send a platoon. Don't be thinking that the regs are something special, they are not. For the most part, they are snivlers that are waiting for there 3 years to end. Don't get me wrong though, there are some very switched on guys in the regs, but there are switched on people everywhere.
