Ah my Canadian brothers.Myself and a few mates were talking about the old days the other day.I use to be in the Australian parachute battalion 3RAR we had in my platoon 2 Canadians 3 all up in the Coy and I think 1 or 2 more in the battalion.I can tell you it was a black day in the Battalion when your Airborne reg was disbanded.
3RAR fought along side 2PPCLI in Korea and share a US Presidential unit citation with them.
Anyway there was talk this year of disbanding our Airborne, the Canadian thing was brought up.This was due to a few bashings of thieves which the media got hold of and blew out of proportion.I don't know about Canada but the Worst crime in OZ army is theft. You can,t trust a dude who steals.Anyway there were also about 6 guys who were skin heads and had a band.Of course they forgot to mention the hundreds of normal dudes ,of all colours and backgrounds. There was a huge push by the media and some politicians to disband the unit and by some soldiers.(You see unless you are airborne you do not understand the mine set.Its not Gungho its confidence because you survived that jump at 0300 did that 60km march under 12 hours carrying 40kgs on your back.YOu know what it means to be alive.YOu know it when you stand in the belly of a Steel stallion(C130) at a thousand feet hooked up good to go with 63 of your peers you respect and your about to put your life on the line for your country and its peace time. That is AIRBORNE)
Anyway Our defence minister came out in a press conference and said there was no way the government would disband a unit with such a fine record and history all because of a few hot heads.
I think maybe your government depends on the USto much.Hey You guys can always come to Oz we need more infantry and airborne.
If there are any grunts on this forum from The PPCLI I hope you have a good 50th Aniversary of the Battle of Kapyong.I hope they send some of you guys to Sydney for it and I'll buy the Wild Turkey.

Thanks bud,
Canada has been hurting since we lost the Airborne regiment. It's gotten so bad that people are discouraged from even wearing clothing items that say "AIRBORNE" on them.
One thing the extreme left (those that always want to disband combat effective units)forgets is that that the army has been more effective in enforcing equality than society has. Minorities have been given full rights in the military long before they have in society at large.
Just because units like these attract those with "extreme" beliefs does not mean they should be disbanded.
Here in Canada for example, Aboriginal people were not considered citizens until 1965. Yet we were fully integrated into the military prior to World War 1.
Not sure how it is there, but I've met a few Aboriginies and Maori's who say that the RSAS and the NZSAS are full of Indigenous peoples.
So these left wing groups that always want to disband combat effective units don't realize that they are doing more harm according to "political correctness" than good.
We are at the point now that when I talk to people from my community about joining they immediatley ask, "What unit can I go in thats high speed", er...well...maybe 3PPCLI jump Coy...er..well...but that wont be around after next summer...uh...none really.

Dont forget though Cree that the reason they are taking the jump COys out are to reassemble some sort of airborne unit again. I posted the info I knew on it I while ago but thats the jist of it.
