Thermals as in underwear, not optics.

Christmas is coming up and I want to get my son something he can use in the field and for some upcoming training in the Sierras. I would like to buy him a couple of sets of quality thermals and a pair of gloves that he will get some use out of. I've searched and there are so many options I've elected to just ask the folks who have extensive experience in trying to stay comfortable in uncomfortable environments.

In regards to the thermals, he's an 0311. A lot of humping so I'm looking for something to wick perspiration, but won't leave him freezing his ass off during down time.

In regards to the gloves, looking for something that won't restrict his ability to do what Marines do best, but will keep him comfortable in between laying the smack down.

He's always been hard on gear (he only knows one speed) so while price isn't a consideration, durability will be. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I wouldn't bother with gloves unless you're sure he'll be able to use them. His unit will probably issue something and may or may not be flexible.

For thermals, I'd recommend Under Armor cold gear.

Thanks for your feedback gentlemen. I ordered a few sets of thermals from UA and nixed the gloves. Massgrunt was right on target, my son said he was limited to the issued gloves.

x1000 on the UA Cold Gear. Also not sure if he will be able to use it but UA makes an amazing hood...

This thing is amazing and keeps you VERY warm.

If your still looking for thermals www.botac.com was selling Woolrich base layer shirts and bottoms for $25. They are lower speed than UA but durable
