I read that among the various contributions to the security aspect of the event, the Canadian Forces will deploy a "stand-by team for hazardous situations"...smells like JTF-2 is standing fast, which is not very surprising.

Actually I heard the Air Cadets have been called out. On a serious note my neighbour has been told to have his kit packed and I'm assuming it has to do with the Quebec Summit. Stupid engineers have all the fun, I need an excuse to miss exams. My university (UNB) is letting students go to the Summit and write their exams later. Thats what you get when hippies grow up to run things.

Talk about hype! A couple of T flashes and some smoke grenades..."individuals planning to use explosives"... whatever. No one would even notice. I think you can get more powerful stuff at most fireworks stores.
I guess the police need to look like they are working hard though, plus they need to make their adversaries look bigger than life.
The whole protest thing is a media created farse, I'd wager that 90% of the people there will have no clue what the FAA is really all about.
However, we do live in a free country and people have the right to gather and party, smoke dope (well almost), miss exams, trade funny hats, grow goaties, stink, and complain about oppression and capitalism. Its too bad that some of em will be reservists though, heh heh.

Maybe they need to set up amnesty bins at strategic locations around the city, so the military protesters can discard their assorted "explosives" without repurcussion.

.... imagine...

You're pressed into a crowd of thousands sandwiched between a chain link fence and a wall of police dressed in faceless black samurai gear. People are chanting, loudspeakers are screaming. Helicopters are buzzing overhead.

Suddenly two faceless thugs wearing gas masks appear behind you throwing "bombs." One brown, dynamite-like stick whizzes past your face, you can see and smell the fuse sputtering. An explosion. People screaming.

The air around you fills with acrid, choking smoke. The press of the crowd turns against you. You struggle to stay upright as a wave of screaming, coughing humanity lifts you off your feet and crushes you into the back of the person behind you. You feel yourself slipping down. Someone steps on your ankle, grinding it against the ashphalt.

As you slip under the crowd and thousands of feet grind over you, you can't even hear yourself scream....

.... Yeah, I think a couple of neo-Nazis with T-Flashes and HCC1A1 smoke grenades could hurt and kill a lot of people.

I'm with the 1st Battalion of the Royal New Brunswick Regiment.

My friend just let alittle while ago for Quebec. Hes a reporter for our school newspaper so hes got a get out of jail free card. This "Summit" is just an excuse for people to gather and stir up shit, thats it. He said hes just going for the party and I probably would too if phase training didn't start the day after my last exam. I don't give a shit about politics and I don't have any grudges with police officers for busting my "pot parties" or whatever. Its just been built up so much I wanna go watch what happens.

By the way I don't smoke pot, never have. But you might want to talk to Enfield about that, he is from Halifax and now lives in BC. Maybe hes the reservist that got arrested. He is after all now a British COLUMBIAN.

Ohh-ohh, you notice the article talks about a reservist and an ex-reservist being arrested. To you think the media is going to turn this into another black eye for the Canadian Forces? (...The Militia, the training grounds for jackbooted stormtrooper thugs...)

The demonistrators for globalization and peace and all that shit sure have expensive gagdets like those fancy camcorders, expensive sneakers and drumsticks. Ask any Third world cab drivers if they support those peaceloving assholes. Back home, the World Bank/IMF helped them a lot.

Damn, Garret, you found me out... I said the Mo'litia needed some public exposure, so I gave it some..*grin*

How can we be considered jackbooted storm troopers? We're obviously on the side of the protestors...
I saw the news conference where the police announced the arrests, and I think the exaggerated the effect of the items - I thought they were talking about C4, not T-flashes. I'll bet they were too stupid to scratch off the serial numbers too... You can buy more potent stuff at surplus and firework stores.

From the CBC Newsworld website:
"The Canadian military will also provide 1,200 members to the Summit. The military says that they will act as cooks and chauffeurs and provide honour guards for visiting dignitaries. If called upon, however, they will act as a backup security force to the police."

My question is, does that mean the cooks and chaffers will double as riot squads and JTF-muscle? Or is there a company of Van Doos getting free room service somewhere in that hotel? (if not, that's a helluva lot of chaffeurs and cooks!)

Ah, where does the "jackbooted stormtroopers" or the "neo-Nazi" labels come from? Everything that I have read or watched in or on the media claims that the only logo that was found was a "hammer and sickle" sticker on the back of a motor-cycle helmet. Perhaps I fail in realizing the link between communism and facism.

To what I gather they are just some messed-up youths that had no clue as to what they where doing.

I agree with the Cree...it is a lot of hype. The National Post this morning had to throw in that the unit that the master jack that was arrested was in, was on a live-fire last month using "automatic weapons and live hand grenades"....what does that have to do with anything? People think that they where going to use the "explosives" to breech the fence. They also included that the smoke grenades could be used to "melt metal"...??

I am sure that if they where anything more than a couple of ass-clowns, they could have thought of better ways to breech a chain-link fence.

Let's let the media deal with sensationalism, and stay away from that rubbish ourselves.

Sorry, I should have clarified...By "Jack booted stormtroopers" I was meaning a typical cliche used by the mass media against the military. It was meant to be an example and not specific to this case in general.
I brought this up because I remember when that reservist was busted with the marijuana at the border. The Province (I know, I know...not the best source of news, but enough people out here read it.) wrote a pretty damning report which seem to indicate the reservists as being a bunch of yahoo off the street that the government was giving weapons to. Regardless of what happens, the media seems to always grossly distort the truth in some fashion.

Tsk tsk tsk. Just saw a bunch of trippy-dippy-hippy flowerchildren born a few generations too late eat a face full of pepper spray out in Vancouver. The whiny little things were protesting "the evils of globalization" {not the coolest rallying cry, but to each his own I guess} Some genius tried to smash a cop with his.... wait for it..... umbrella. I actually cheered when the cop PS'd the 'tard. http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/biggrin.gif
So what I'm trying to say is......
ENFIELD, DISTURBANCE, COLE.....STOP PISSING OFF THE VANCOUVER POLICE WITH THESE SILLY LITTLE PROTESTS OF YOURS!!!!!!! http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/wink.gif
And remember, Enfield, don't point an umbrella at someone unless you intend to use it. *L*
I slay me. hehehe
