View Full Version : Reg Force Infantry
In a little while, possibly October i will be going to battle school. Iam just waiting for my tranfer from reserves to regs to be completed. When ever people ask me what trade iam tranfering to and they hear that its infantry, they think iam crazy. From what most people are telling me in my unit, they say that the average life in the reg force infantry is boring. They wake up do PT, have a break , do maybe a couple of hours of work ranging from house keeping to some classes. then there days end at 4. Now it there truth to this, that each day, very little is actually done. I am just wondering how much actual training goes on. as well how often you can go on courses, or is it hard to get courses. If anybody can shed some light on this that would be greatly appreciated.

I would say, welcome to the Army!! Its never gonna be as high speed, low drag as everyone would like, no matter WHAT unit you are in. You'll always be training up in unneccessary things like SHARP, but hey, thats the way it is.
Your training will depend on your Operational Tempo, which depends on the Unit and your chain of command. If you get to a Jump Coy or Light Bn you should be more busy, do to higher overall standards, more emphasis on Light Infantry skills etc. If you get to a Mech Bn you'll be doing more veh. maintenance (you mech guys can correct me if I'm wrong).
Comming from the reserves you will notice a deference. In the reserves, time is of the essence, you've usually got a Wed night plus Fri night, Sat, half of Sunday to complete training objestives. When you are active, you have much more time. When I got to my reserve unit I was amazed at how much they got done in small segments of time. Some reserve units even get more time in the field that their reg force counterparts!
Remember, one last thing, if you're ever bored, something is wrong, its state of mind. People that get "bored" are weak mentally.
