I've always used Dulles or BWI, but I have a flight coming up at Reagan going out of country, how is the parking access and such there?

I'll be heading out on a Sat. morning and coming back on a Monday evening (5:30)

How is the security screening there? Is it a better setup than Dulles? (Wait wise)

I'm not that familiar with parking, as I have always used the train, or a taxi.

I have never had any issues with getting through security there. I would argue that it is better than Dulles -- both in wait time and in simple organization of how they do things....

With that schedule, you should be GTG...Saturday a.m. security lines will be light, and you can find a parking place in the daily garages. You can walk from these to the terminals, or wait for the shuttle bus...walking is usually faster.

The easiest bet was valet parking, but they've apparently discontinued that at DCA, so I'm told.

Note that parking can be quite expensive if you don't use the econo parking.

If you can come in on the subway (National is on the Yellow and Blue lines) you can save a bundle on parking. (Remember that the Metro doesn't run late night)

Didn't think about parking costs...$120 for economy. Hope my truck will be safe.

I know people who park their cars in Crystal City or Rosslyn in paid garages that are cheaper than the airport and take taxis or Metro back to DCA. Depends on how much time you are willing to commit to save the money and how much stuff you are lugging.

I've only flown out of Reagan once, but I loved it. Security was much more efficient than Dulles. I was part of a team of 30, most of them minors, and all of us had two 70+ pound bags and a carry-on each. They got us through in record time.

Parking was pretty easy from what I remember, and we were flying during summertime. We were dropped off, however, so I don't know the prices of keeping a car there. But the metro has pretty decent hours, so if you're not lugging too much stuff then finding a park and ride might be a cheaper option. If you're in Fairfax they have a decent bus-to-metro system as well.

its a 2 hour drive to DCA for me, looks like I will be parking at economy as we have several bits of luggage to tote.

Thanks for the info!

I fly in and out of there all the time. Agree on parking in Crystal City vice the airport to save money and take a cab or hop on the Metro at the Marriott Underground. Security wait is not bad - way better than Dulles.

X2. I usually fly in and grab a rental so cannot comment on parking. But the overall experience has been significantly better than Dulles.

I like national, though never flown international from there. Most security is better than Dulles, lol. If you're stuck on a layover, better crappy airport food too.

I dunno...DCA doesn't offer the super-cool mobile lounge rides. Gosh, those are fun.

On the plus side, terminal B at IAD has a Five Guys' now...

Charlie,

There is a Holiday Inn on Route 1/ Jefferson Davis HWY 1/2 mile from Regan. Pull up front, go to the desk and purchase a parking permit for the number of days needed ($6/day versus $12 at the economy lot). The bus will drop you off at the airport free of charge. It will be in a garage with 24 hour security.

If you choose to use the economy lot, the process is much smoother that Dulles. The bus ride is 1/4 the distance. Once inside the security/check-in process is less of a hassle as well.

Any questions give me a buzz.
