View Full Version : Infantry Units in Houston, TX??

So I just recently graduated with my undergrad degree in December. Now, I am going to Houston to go to grad school. Since my current unit is based out of Austin, I have to make a transfer to an Infantry unit somewhere in Houston (lest I want to make a 200+ mile weekend trip for drill weekends.....which I DO NOT).

Anyone know off hand of any 11B units in the Houston, TX area (ARNG)? I've asked my readiness NCO for some assistance in this matter, however "other things" keep coming up (alphabetizing range score cards and solitare ) and he is dropping the ball on me.

So does anyone know of a grunt unit in the Houston area with some vacant paragraph and line numbers that would be willing to accept me as a transfer soldier?

I don't know any first hand, but a little search on google gave me this.

When I had to change units I just called a recruiter in the city I was moving to and got all the information I needed.

1-112th cav B Troop is in Rosenberg. My husband is in A troop (close to Austin) but we know some folks down there. Shoot me a PM if you'd like, I don't know about vacancies or how transfer works but I can put you in touch with my husband... he used to be a recruiter as well and has a bunch of ARNG contacts across TX.

IMHO You wuold be better off going back to Austin for your Drill.

Where are you going to Grad School? Rice, UH, ST, HBU???

The HQ is off Old Spanish Trail.

Try Ellington Field. Joint forces reserve center.

My Ranger buddy is in a LRS unit outside of Austin. PM me if your interested.

Surely the Marine Reserve still has something available in the AO? My info's dated (I interstate transferred from TX to OR back in '03), but I'm unaware of any great supply of 11-series slots in Houston since G Co's inactivation.

One other possibility is to reclassify into a different MOS — not a very hard thing to do in the Guard.

RAT, why do you think that Austin would be better? I used to drive to SA for my drills a while back. That was one sucky 3 hour drive each way.

And I'm going to UH for my M.S.

Hell man...I'd stick with Austin...could always be worse. I live in San Antonio, and drill in Mobile, AL. Hell, it's only one weekend a month.

Ellington Field. USMCR and Army share a reserve center there.

1st Congrat's on up grading to the University of Houston. Go GOUGARS!!!!

As I understand it you are drilling up there now, correct?

Unless you do not like the unit, I would stay where I know the deal and don't have to break in with a new Team, Plt, Company, Bn.

Are you from Houston? What part of town are you going to live in? That will make all the difference in the world.
