I heard that the Israeli's made a sniper rifle version of their Galil assualt rifle in .308/7.62mm, and it is available in the USA as a target rifle. I'd like to check it out if there is such a rifle, so any help would be appreciated.

Just my personal opinion but, If I was going to buy a target rifle it would definitely not be any version of a Galil. Kind of like paying eight or ten grand for a PSG-1. Looks cool but you can build a hell of a lot better rifle for two grand. Unless you just want to be the first guy on your block to have one it seems a waste. If you are going to compete why not buy a real target rifle that will probably cost less and will be more accurate? As for your question, I don't know. But thought I would offer my 2 cents. Good luck and good hunting.

Hi Little_Rogue;
As per my first post the Galil sniper rifle was imported prior to 1994 but is no longer due to the so called assault weapon ban. You can buy a pre ban but be ready for a sudden pain in the wallet, they go for a very high price now, again thanks to the ban. For a collector it's a good rifle, for shooting nope you'll loose money. Plus the action is based on the AK47, including the same noisey safety, and not the most accurate of even semi auto SWS. I have fired the weapon for training and qualification, it's not as accurate as ANY bolt rifle. The IDF issues the US M24 for sniper use and the M16A3 for DMR use, only the National Police use the Galil sniper. As an aside most Galil ARMs,ARs,SARs are being replaced with the M16/M4 US rifles in the IDF.
Hope this clears things up for you. Take care...Jim

Well I was kind of interested in it for target shooting, I had heard that the Galil was a really good rifle and I thought the sniper version might be as good, I guess not.

I wouln't advise it for target shooting. What type of shooting are you looking into? NRA Highpower, Combat, silhouette, sniper? It all depends on what discipline you want to get into as to what weapon will be appropriate. Let me know and I'll try to help.
