Hi,
Has anyone had problems with Leupold LR scopes not tracking correctly and the parallax adjustment needing to be reset after firing 5 to 10 shots?
The scope I have is the 4.5-14X50 LR Tac with side focus.Premier Reticle installed the mil-dot and changed the knobs from target to MK 4 M1 type. Could this be why I'm having a problem? Has anyone else had dealing with Premier?
The scope is on its way to Leupold to be checked and should arrive in a day or two. I called Leupold and the people there tell me they have not had any problems with their LR scopes tracking or holding parallax. They seem to think its the knob change by Premier that is the problem. What do you guys think??
FYI Leupold did tell me that the side focus system on the MK 4 series is better made than the LR series. And the MK 4 series has to pass more test than the LR before leaving the factory.
Have any of you had problems with Leupold MK 4 or their LR scopes?? What about U.S. Optics scopes, are they as good or better than Leupold?
Are the other Leupolds in service tracking like they should? 1/4 MOA per click every time?
Thanks for your time,
Glen

I already put my two cents on the US optics on the IOR post (Looking for choice on optics). As far as Leupold. I have had and seen very few problems with Leupold scopes, but I have recently had a major one. I like the fixed power scopes so I have a few 12x varmints. The last one i bought (last year) worked fine for the first 2 months, then the tracking went to hell. I sent it back to Leupold just to have it returned with a note saying there was no problem. The scope was remounted and the same problem existed. Again the scope went in and returned unfixed. The third time I mounted the scope the knobs were almost unmovable. They were felt bound up, the knobs were almost unturnable. A strong letter got things fixed. When I got it back the third time I had a note that showed where all internal parts had been replaced. The thing is perfect now.
Again, this is the only real problem I have had and it was corrected. It took a few trips, but they got it right and they were very nice each time I talked to them. Problems are going to happen sooner or later and I like it when they can and are corrected with a smile. I expect that your scope will come back in perfect working order, if not, just send back until they get it right. Once it’s right you will forget about the wait.---Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the reply. The only Leupold scopes that I own that have problems are the 2 LR scopes that I purchased from Premier with the knob change. Never having owned a LR before I didn't know if the LR series had a problem or if it was just mine.
Are the click adjustments true on your 12X ?
Do they have any 500yd + ranges in your area open to the public?

I have recently purchased on the 3.5x10x40mm LR M1 scopes. Although I haven't mounted it on a rifle yet.
The side focus knob does seem to do nothing when turned. I have a Mark4 16x and I would think that the results be the same.
Although not as much money as my Mark4, if I'm not pleased with it shortly, it'll be replaced by a Mark4 10x.

I've never had a problem with either Leupold or Premier. But, the few problems that I've heard about were always solved at no charge and the products were returned within an acceptable time-frame. That's why I buy Leupold.

Glen,
Do we have any 500-yard ranges...?
We have built a few ranges in our area. We started with a completely bermed 300-yard range. The berms are 60' think at the base and 25' High. Then two years ago we built a 1000-yard range with a moving target we can put at any distance. It usually sits at 600 yards though. Both of these ranges are at The Rio Grande Valley Shooting Center in Rio Hondo Texas. We designed and built the ranges for our use and have complete access any and all times.
Next, an hour north of here we have our private ranges. A 700-meter range and the two new ones we are currently building will be 700 meters and 2000 yards. These will not be open to the public full time but we will have rifle matches and all our training will be conducted there.
What I am getting at…if you love long range shooting then we would love to see ya. Are you within driving distance?
