I just had a talk with my 13 year old son last weekend about this exact thing. Not that anything has happened, but more than a few female teachers here in the utah have raped/taken advantage of their male students.
He's 6-1, 155 and looks older than he is, actually a pretty good looking kid. (milkman?) maybe I am overreacting, whatever the case may be I really don't want him to experience one of the great things in life with some washed up hosebag. After he hits 18, he's free to make all the bad choices with women he wants.

It is lousy that we have to worry about this type of behavior from adults that are suppose to be looking out for the kids. My son is 20 now, but has always looked older (he looked in his 20s even when he was 15). Recently, a neighborhood cougar (not even attractive) tried to pick him up. I am happy to report that he is too savvy for that stuff. It goes to show that anyone, male or female, can abuse authority and power.

The Tennessee chick definitely wins out, but it's friggin cold in NH in the winter, you gotta take what you can get. When you're 13 and a teacher is sending you nude photos, unless she looks like Rosie O'Donnell, she is definitely hot! LOL

I was writing a paper for a course back in 2003/4, there had been a recent increase in teacher/student allegations. I diverted my paper and started researching the matter, and was shocked with what I found.
When you think about Teacher on Student sexual misconduct/rape, the whole "high school coach banging the cheerleaders" scenario is what comes to mind (I blame Porkys). That's not how it is.
I found that allegations in a 5yr period favored female educators to the tune of 55-60%, and that specific year was 65%. Makes you wonder.

It's probably the whole double standard thing. Nobody is really watching the female teachers. Everyone's eyes are on the male teachers watching for signs.

Yep. There's a double standard, all right. From the TN case:
Conviction on all counts could be punished by up to 100 years in prison, although it is unlikely given her gender...
It happened at my school back in '65 with the girls' PE teacher. She was just out of college and definitely H-O-T. Several boys were 'victimized' repeatedly and magnificently, and they brag about it gratefully to this day. 10th grade was good for them.
If they had been made to go through the publicity today's boys are subjected to - media reporting, police interviews, counseling, etc. - they'd probably still be on Prozac.
As it was, the teacher went away when her contract was not renewed, the boys got a stern talking-to by their parents for 'using poor judgment,' and life moved on.
However, this was in 10th grade and with 16 year olds. Sending naked pics to a 13 year old is way beyond unsat and needs some prison time.

It's weird how common this sort of thing seems to be. My girlfriend's best friend is 27, pretty hot and seems to have just rotten luck with guys. Since my girlfriend always gets dragged into the drama, I made a comment that she should be more picky in who she dates. Of course she didn't listen to me when she started dating a cop and I told her the guy was likely married. Two weeks in she found out he was married and she realized I was right. She decided that the next guy she was going to date, I had to give approval. Last weekend we're at a hockey game and in one of the breaks her and my gf go to get a drink. While there the friend meets a guy who seemed nice. After the game we were going to a bar across the street and she invited him to meet us - so I could tell her what I thought of the guy. We met up later, and the guy seemed alright. He had a good job as a corporate consultant. At any rate he didn't display the obvious traits of the guys she normally got involved with. He showed up at her birthday party at a local pub the next night and when the birthday girl got a little too drunk, he didn't try to take advantage of the situation. I gave her my "approval". Two days later she calls my gf completely freaked out. She had asked his last name the night of her birthday and he blew it off. She finally got it out of him and googled him. The first link google pops is him:
http://badbadteacher.com/neil-finger/
He had moved from Washington to Texas 5 days before she met him. She immediately told him that she understood that people make mistakes but she could never get involved with him, trying to get out of the situation as easily as possible. Since then though the guy has been leaving weird messages for her, driving by her place, etc. I thought at first she just has rotten luck, but realized that in this case it's probably more that she is hot and lookes like she is 17, his prime target.
Since then though the guy has been leaving weird messages for her, driving by her place, etc....If he is a convicted sex offender, I would think it easy enough to get the assistance of the authorities to remind him of his need to not bother women....

Last night I gave her my brothers number and told her to call him if he persisted any more. He's an officer with one of the local PD's and will make sure the guy gets the message. The odd thing is that I've ran his name in the online sex offender databases and he doesn't show up. I guess they just take a while to update?

Response I got from an email--inquiring minds want to know ;)
N e i l F i n g e r moved from Clark County, WA to Benton County, WA in June 2009. Benton County shows he moved to Allen, TX.
Normally only Level III and Level II offenders show up on an internet
database unless they are homeless in Clark County. When he was
registered in Clark County he was a Level II but was changed to a Level
I by Benton County when he moved there. Each county in WA does their
own classification and it is possible that one offender could be
classified differently in each county.
It is possible he may be registered in Texas but is a low level that he
is not on the internet. You can call the county where he is living and
ask if he is registered. There is also a possibility that Texas may not
require him to register based on the differences in law.
So, again we find that laws pertaining to sex offenders (and the information available to regular citizens via registries) do not work they way they are reportedly supposed to. I'm shocked  not really.

I don't think it's the least bit funny for a supposedly grown woman to be going after teenage boys. That's sick. It isn't right for men either, but I do know that some girls are egging that shit on. Not that it's a valid excuse, but I have seen both sides of the picture. It only becomes a "crime" when the younger party gets tired of the game or a parental figure finds out.
I think we need to seriously rethink how we handle sex offenders. I do not feel there is a rehabilitation method that works for these people.

What needs to happen is that female sex offenders be treated exactly the same as male sex offenders. Looking at the list and charges you can see they aren't and only because they're women.

Granted, the repercussions for the victims of this type of crime may vary in severity between the sexes. However, it is still a crime. The perpetrator is in a position of power and authority and is taking advantage of someone who is under age and vulnerable. It speaks volumes on the mental health issues and unethical behavior of the perpetrator. There are also other crimes linked to this type of behavior, many violent. Is this someone you want teaching your children... male for female? In particular, at what age is it OK for female teachers to have sex or inappropriately touch a male student? Legal age? What about under age? What about age 13, 12, 10... 5? These perpetrators are child molesters/rapists regardless of their sex and the sex of their victims. Just my $.02...
... I simply do not agree that it is the same crime. I do not care if I get flamed, so be it. I just refuse to accept that it is the same....
I do not feel there is a rehabilitation method that works for these people.
I agree 100%.
The perpetrator is in a position of power and authority and is taking advantage of someone who is under age and vulnerable....
I never bought into this nonsense. In fact I think that our laws about this are insane however, and to my point above, what's good for the gander is good for the goose: meaning if a 32 year old man gets 20 years in prison for fucking a 17 year old student, then a 32 year old woman should get 20 years in prison for fucking a 17 year old student - and yes this goes for fags and lesbos, too.
The above "position of power" shit takes away my ability to reason. If I fuck my boss because I wanted to fuck my boss and she's HOT how is she abusing her position of power and authority? I could use that GAY excuse to probably sue the agency and get money, but it's GAY. I wanted to fuck her, I am an adult, period. People tried to use this argument with the Lewinsky scandal. She was a damned adult and wanted to blow the POTUS. Period.
I also don't thik that at 18 people magically become adults. We all know some immature assed adults and we all know some mature manipulative teens.
IF some 24 year old brand new out of college teacher just finds out that his wife has been cheating on him, and there's a sexually active 17 year old chick in his school who has actively been pursuing him and who has fucked 50 dudes on her walk to school and in a moment of weakness he lets her blow him - who was the manipulator in the situation?
Using ages, and not scenarios, to judge things is retarded and is a product of a lazy and ineffectual (and yes, overtaxed) justice system. I liken it to the zero tolerance policies many railed about early last month. Granted that in the majority of these cases it is a sexual deviant manipulating someone - but not all. I'd just like to see situations addressed, not simply an age because someone opened a book and sees X = Y.
Common sense should prevail. That said chicks getting probation or slaps on the wrists when they are just as sexually deviant as dudes is asinine.

Agreed.

I was speaking to the responsibility teachers have to their students only and not between professionals in the workplace... although that brings up a whole other can of worms....
Personally, I have been passed over for promotions because I have REFUSED to sleep with my boss.... this stuff still goes on and on. Most of my guy friends that have daughters graduating college are really concerned, because they have seen what this BS does to their girlfriends/wives etc...
Any persons (male or female) who abuse their position of authority is NOT cool with me, regardless of who the victims are.

I am sure it goes on and goes on both ways, between male bosses and female bosses, however I believe that many (not accusing you) who use this excuse just weren't qualified and are using it as an excuse to reason why they weren't promoted.
For my part since I left the Army every single boss, and we're talking BIG bosses here, that I've had, apart from one, was a woman.
As far as those with daughters graduating college, if they raised them correctly and if the daughters are busting their asses and performing duties as expected they should have nothing to worry about.

I have had both female and male bosses and the last 8 years held two executive positions in previous companies (Global Director and Vice President) prior to founding my own company. I have had some of the best mentors as well. I agree in most cases you get what you give. However, many women today still don't discuss issues in the workplace. Right after my very first promotion in my very first job after college (working for my very first mentor/boss) I was put up against a wall by my throat by my boss's superior who was furious that a women was promoted to his group. I just happened to be the first manager in the group of all men. The group was terrific and I had a really solid relationship with them.... not so much for my director's boss. Could I have sued? Probably, but at that time I was young and naive and was determined to deal with it myself. I was lucky to have a boss/mentor who did his best to kept his superior away from me. Things are still so much better now then 20 years ago; but abuse of power always will exist to some level. Bottom line, no ethical leader takes advantage of his position of authority.

Coming into this thread a little late, but here's my .02 cents.
People talk about "rehabilitating" sex offenders like it's something these people are doing by accident. These ADULTS are making these concious decisions to do this.
They weren't brought up being told it was ok and they certainly didn't see anywhere in society where it's been acceptable. The decisions they make are WRONG and should be treated as such regardless of age, sex, race, religion or anything at all.
Their apologies aren't worth a thing and just talking to them and giving them a slap on the wrist isn't helping when you see a new case pop up every day or two. I think the issue just isn't being handled properly. Which is clearly proven by going back in this thread and seeing how rules are different state to state.

I agree with you, but how are these crimes any different from any other crime where society speaks of "rehabilitating" offenders? What about burglars, con artists, arsonists and just about any other type of criminal conduct? Most people convicted of these crimes made a conscious decision to commit their particular crime. Can they be rehabilitated? If so, why is it that they can be but a sex offender can't be?
Personally, I think the rehabilitation label should be removed from the prison system all together. Prison should be for punishment. Period.

The thing I don't understand: WHY would any human being old enough to send text messages these days- especially an adult teacher- NOT realize that sending nude pictures to a KID was a bad idea??? She HAD to know that he was DEFINITELY going to show them around.
I don't get it.

I'm guessing she wasn't cheerleading to pay for her degree in rocket science.

It happened at my school back in '65 with the girls' PE teacher. She was just out of college and definitely H-O-T. Several boys were 'victimized' repeatedly and magnificently, and they brag about it gratefully to this day. 10th grade was good for them.

We had a term for those poor kids at my school.

If you read these cases, it seems the scenario does have an impact on the sentencing more so than the charge.
DH's new friend was merely dismissed, her student was 17, while the ones with multiple students or in their early teens or had sex in school went to prison. Seems like the Lesbians caught a break in sentencing as well. The age difference between 13-17 and 17-21 is significant. I think the age helps form the scenario.

...wow.
One of the hits on that list was a 50 year old broad jumping an 11 year old kid.

"That's gross. Wonder what was going through his head."
More so WHAT did she pump and manipulate into that child's head. It's scary what they say to kids to make it right (in their mind).
I'm talking about the young ones, not the 17+ range.
It's been awhile since I worked around them, but they excel at manipulating.

What's worse is, she somehow believed it to be ok. Or at least thought she would get away with it.
As I posted before, no rehab, just prison time. Pretty disgusting.
Man, I'd love for a 50 y/o HOT chick teacher to jump on me now -- you'd think it were possible, certainly my IQ and outwardly demonstrated personality is that of an 11 y/o....

I've read that in other cultures, it's the norm to have an older woman introduce boys coming of age into sex. We as a society have hangups about that. I blame the Baptists.

Who wouldn't hit that?
How could you concentrate in class with that at the front of the room?
I'd hit it so hard you'd have to separate me from her with an angle grinder after I spot welded my pelvis to hers...
