7-year-old calls 911, saves family from attack
AP

NORWALK, Calif. – A terrified 7-year-old boy begged emergency dispatchers to send police to his Southern California home where three armed robbers threatened his parents, according to a recording of the call released Tuesday.

Gunmen broke into the boy's home Tuesday morning and announced that they would take whatever they wanted, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Steve Kenny said.

The boy and his 6-year-old sister hid unnoticed in the locked bathroom while the suspects threatened his mother and father at gunpoint.

"There's some guy who's going to kill my mom and dad," he said breathlessly. "Bring cops. A lot of them! ... And soldiers, too."

The suspects eventually broke into the bathroom and someone screamed. The 911 operator sounded shaken as she explained what happened to her colleagues.

Kenny said the suspects grabbed the boy and asked who he called. He responded, "911." The gunmen fled without taking anything or injuring the family.

"If not for the brave and educated actions of the 7-year-old boy, this might have ended tragically," said sheriff's Capt. Pat Maxwell.

The three men remain at large.

I toast the Boy tonight for certain. Calm under pressure, his thinking does not stop, and he understands overwhelming force at point of attack. ;)

That story has got to be fake. Everyone knows that California's restrictive gun laws wouldn't allow such a thing to happen. Nice try Johan ;)

This young man has learned a valuable lesson. When you ask for the right things, help does come. Good job!

Good call, little guy!
(His comments remind me of Rule #1: Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.)

Yeah. Wish I had a chance to respond to that call. I keep a dozen or so little "dollar store" badges in my trunk when I run into a good kid I pass them around...

This kid would get one!

"Bring cops. A lot of them! ... And soldiers, too."

Gotta love that. He couldnt shoot/fight, so he communicated and called in backup! good on him!

Well done little man! Not only calling for help but protecting his baby sister in the process!

"Bring cops. A lot of them! ... And soldiers, too."...methinks he might well become one or the other himself when he grows up

Fox just showed the press meeting with the boy and the 911 operator. Well done to both of them, especially the boy.

I have to say, after listening to the end of the tape where the robbers break into the bathroom and get the kids, I really felt bad for the operator. Hearing them snatched and not being able to stop it. Ugh. Glad everyone's okay, and hope they catch the guys.

Here was the MSNBC link. I am with random. You just cringe hearing the poor little kids yelling when those C@CKSUCKERS get in!!

I hope the a$$holes put up enough of a fight for a clean shoot.....I mean lawful apprehension.

I really felt bad for the operator.

Yes, sometime what you hear can be far worse than what you see. When you hear over radio, you are probably not in position to intervene directly.

It is one of the unspoken blessing if you are AH-64 or A-10 Pilot - if you hear about it, you are probably in a position to and have an expectation to do something about it. ;)

Great story! Kid deserves a yoohoo and a victorias secret catalogue.

A female friend was going for 911 operator. I tried to discourage her, as I know her, she's not that strong, mentally. I tried to tell her she was possibly going to listen to crap like that, people bleeding out, and other assorted stuff, without being able to really help immediately. Ugh.

And the boy would like it made known that it was his sister that screamed when the robbers entered the bathroom, not him.

Little guy did good! Reason he didn't ask for any of the others is because he understands "proportionality" and its consequences! Had he called an Airman for instance, he would have received this:

Now what would his folks say about that?;)

Yes sir, wish I could've been there too, even though most don't see Border Patrol as law enforcement. We have "Jr" BP Agent stickers and I carry about 100 with me all the since my bike patrol days and deputise good kids as often as I can. Try to win the hearts and minds young.

I salute that young man for being a hero and protector. He's most definetly on the right path.
