a local pawn shop has two Remington 700s in .300WM. One's a Sendero SF, the others a 700P. I'm looking to pick up one for a project rifle, any pros or cons to each? Keep in mind that I'll probably wind up with only the action as the only factory part left in the rifle ( hmm, now that I think about it, Brownells used to have just the actions for sale... )
Thanks for the help,
Mac

Hi Mac679!
I think it depends on their price. You probably can purchase a new 700P action for about $400. So, if these rifles are more than $400, you would be wasting the money over $400.
Just my opinion!

You may want to go with the PSS if your going to rebarrel it. The stock will take a much larger barrel and is an H&S stock, be it and older design. The other stock will take a little larger barrel but not like the PSS stock.
By using the existing stock you can save yourself $300 unless you have your heart set on a different style of stock then by all means look for a cheap action.

Hey Pat hows life?
For info the Sendero has a HS Precision stock also. Its a long action though so I would not pick for a 308. Forend is slightly narrower than the PSS stock but otherwise pretty much the same.

10-4 Mike, there both H&S but the PSS stocks were a little nicer and more expensive. The PSS stocks were actually H&Ss earlier tactical stocks for their sniper rifles and is a clone to the M-24s other than the adjustable length of pull. With the PSS stock you can go to a much larger barrel also.
Life hasn't been to bad lately, been busier than hell but thats not all bad. Haven't been out to shoot much been to busy with the new house. (I have to do some remodeling). My son and his partner won the nationals in the sniper competiton at the Wilson matches in AK. this last week and even made the Chiefs 50. I used to hear his foot steps now I hear them in the distance(HA). Its tough to get old Mike.

Pat speaking of HS stocks, have you tried the new vertical grip fixed length of pull and fixed comb height model. Seems like a nice one to me. I like the bedding blocks but ahte all the adjustments and non vertical grip of the M24 style. Seems like the new vertical grip model would be ideal with spacers. Then take some marine tex and texture the areas handled and you have a stock good to go. What do you think?

I nearly bought one but at the time they didn't have them for the long actions. I was going to put one on my 6.5x284 when I built it.
I finally went with an A-2 because I wanted to try the vertical grip but I don't care for all the adjustment crap since I don't ever need it.
Its my understanding, if were talking about the same stock, it is the same exact stock as their new tactical stock only without all the adjustments and you can put spacers in for adjusting length, if I remember correctly.
I won one of their new adjustable tactical stocks at the D&L shoot two years ago and I really liked the feel of it but as I said I don't care for all the adjustments but my son shoots highpower and needs it for slinging up and position shooting plus it had the front rail for a hand stop so he "Stole" it from me for his 308 and loves it.
I really like the grip area it has a lot slimmer grip than the PSS stocks did and is very comfortable even with small hands. If you give Janet a call she could fill you in and fix you up with what ever you need they are great to work with as you know.
