Just got a brand new mauser model 98 barrel & action made by vektor of south africa. Its in .30-06. Planning to mount a US-optics SN-4

What kind of stock do u think i should bed it in? Maybe a custom Mcmillan or something finished off in desert camo. Also its in .30-06 & i cant get .30-06 ammo here in Oman. So if i got a chamber adapter to convert it to say .308 win. Would this affect the accuracy in any way?

cheers

A chamber collar shouldn't affect the accuracy in any way. Condition of the bore, shape of the bullet and muzzle crown are the deciding factors for accuracy provided you have breath control and trigger squeeze down pat.

Hi, as an MAUSER shooter myself. I must say that I have fitted a McMillan stock and Im really happy with it....

Hi Ktulu;

I've shot the Navy 7.62x51mm(.308)"sleeved" M-1 Garand with no apparent loss of accuracy. If you can get the assistance of a Navy armorer check with him on the matter, I believe(could be mistaken) they used a loctite on the collar to keep it from moving.My only concern was about movement and possible gas cutting if it did. Didn't happen in the few thousand rounds I put through it though.

Good to see you again, take care, my friend...Jim
