Have any of you guys tried or are you using Kreigier or Shilen barrels?? If so whats your thoughts on them. I have one of each now and trying to decide which one to go with for my 6.5x284 The other will go to rebarrel my 260. Both are 1-8 twists and the same size so no difference there. Thanks for your thoughts.

Have used Kreiger on several rifles in the past. My M14 has gone through two Kreigers, and the one on my AR has 8000+ rds on it and still cleans 300yd rapid with 6-7X's. One of my father's space gun's has a 1:6.5 twist Shilen on it and it shoots fine. Won a 600yd match with it (398-21x), and I was testing ammo, not serious. BTW, those Hornady 80gn bullets shoot just fine. 24.0gns RL15, seated to 2.260 and they shot 200-11x. Looks like I have a new 300yd load for windy days. So I guess it doesn't matter too much. Kreiger's are cut rifled, Shilens are button. I prefer cut, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. I'd go Kreiger, but it's close. Semper Fidelis...Ken M

Ken, when did Hornady make a 80grn .223 bullet? Have you tried Varget instead of RL-15? Same burn rate, but it is one of Hodgdons Extreme powders, so it is not effected by temperature.

Hornady cranked out some 80gn bullets for Fin,Fur and Feather. I bought a 1000 at Perry this year. At something like $75/1000, how could I go wrong? They use the the Hornady secant ogive and can be loaded mag length, unlike the Sierras and the various VLD's. I have done only cursory testing. but like I said, I'm quite happy with a 200-11x at 600. I load 77gn Sierras with Varget for the Illinois State junior rifle team, but I use RL15 for my 75gn loads, and used to use N140 for 80gn loads, but went to RL15 across the board. It works for me, and I am happy with it. Never had any real temp issues, and I use a very tame load. S/F..Ken M

Thanks Ken,
Will probably put the Kreiger on the 6.5x284 and the Shilen on the 260.

Pat I have three Kriegers with a spare on the way. Great tubes. Have just recently shot a bunch of 199s with lots of Xs at Butner (North Carolina) at 600 and 1000 out of a 308. Both my NM ARs have Kriegers.

Dave,
I have heard really good things about Kreiger and am looking forward to trying it out. I really have no complaints about my Pac Nors though, they have been really good to me.
